Good afternoon Buttoneers! I know…I know…It is supposed to be ‘Workspace Wednesday’ but this week is a double whammy blog challenge week so I can (hopefully) squeeze them all in before my birthday in June. You can read all about the challenge here. This way I am not totally overwhelmed by four posts in a week (like I was last double whammy week) and can smush things around so that you beautiful Buttoneers still get your three posts 🙂 Hurrah for being more organised this week!
Anyway…Without further ado…here is the makings of brooch number 10…
Spring feels like it is in a finger tips grasp away from us and I was channelling that into my ideas this week.
Bright yellows and Oranges, citrus zest of colour zinging in to add cheer and smiles on the duller days.
I love the simplicity of the sunshine stitches on the cheerful felt and I started to think of Daffodils, swaying in the cool spring breeze with the energy and warmth of the sun on your face…
I cut a circle of yellow felt and stitched a Pekinese stitch (I also used it here in my Heart Garland and ‘Hello Lover’ brooch) around the outside on both sides of the felt in bright orange and instantly loved that it looked like a frilly Daffodil.
I then added a loose running stitch around the inside of the circle and pulled it tight to ruche up the felt circle into more of a Daffodil centre shape.
Then carefully placed it on to the centre of the embroidered felt petals to get a visual idea of what it would look like…which I am glad I did as it looked a bit small.
So, in a bit of a panic I decided to make another Pekinese stitched circle of felt but not ruche this one up and see what it looked like…
I really liked it as the stitch was less ruffled and you could see the intricacy of it around the circle…but…to me It looked less like a Daffodil without the frilly bits. So, on the off chance that the creative fairies were on my side, I place the original centre in to the new centre…
Yes! Nailed it! It looked like a Daffodil! WOOHOO! I love it when things come together!
Phew! 10 down and 17 to go! I am still super excited about this challenge and have a thousand ideas for Friday’s brooch – I better get sewing!
What do you think? I think this may be one of my favourites now as I love that I persevered and got it to fall into place at the end! It really makes me feel like Spring is around the corner.
What makes you think of springtime? I would love to hear from you all!
