Around Here…September 2015

Around - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! Do you know that the last ‘Around Here’ post was in May!? Jeez….Well after last week’s rather deep blog post ‘It’s Not You…It’s Me (and why this isn’t a break up)’ I felt like sitting in the Eliston Button Headquarters again for a little while to get the lay of the land and to try to feel a little more settled in there. That’s when it occurred to me, whilst flicking through my phone, that even though I thought I hadn’t done a lot other than mooch around in my pyjamas feeling under the weather, I had.

I looked back over the last month (as I tend to do when I welcome in a new month) and loved that even though in my heart I wasn’t as happy or relaxed as I would have liked to have been, I had had more good parts of days than I realised. They may not have been full days, but I was so grateful that I had documented small parts of days.

I had savoured sunshine. I had collected moments of calm. I had accumulated small pockets of goodness. I had amassed memories that would carry me through cloudy or stormy days.

I am so grateful for that. I am so grateful for Instagram. I am so grateful that I am a collector, a hoarder of memories and moments.

So, here you are…Won’t you stay a while and read with me through my month of September 2015? The month where ‘Around Here’ I re-found light and colour and warmth…So without further ado…

Around Here…As I mentioned before, I opened up about what is truly going on ‘Around Here’ in my latest blog post ‘It’s Not You…It’s Me (and why this isn’t a break up)’

Around Here…These might just be my most favouritest new shoes ever! They are so cute that I can’t stop staring at them!

Around Here…I thought there would be no way that these grapes would actually taste like Candy Floss…they do!!! Mind Blown!

Around Here… I fall a little bit in love with this wall outside Carlucccios in Cheltenham every time I walk past it. I love the tiles and the flowers and the colours…*swoon*

Around Here…I tried Papaya fruit for the first time (I know…I know…where have I been for the last 28 years!) I love these exotic colours, makes me feel like I’m on holiday…until I see the grey cloud out of the window!

Around Here…We welcomed a new little succulent to the family…Hello there little one.

Around Here…I’m not normally a wine drinker, actually I rarely drink at all, but this Echo Falls fruit fusion caught my eye! I’m a sucker for anything mango flavoured and this was spot on!

Around Here…I was so excited to post one of my woven wall hangings off to South Carolina, USA! My first weaving sale! I love that my doses of creative goodness are being loved across the world, this makes it all worthwhile.

Around Here…Not a bad sea view for coffee for two…I was so grateful to be able to take a few days away with my love. It was so quiet!!

Around Here…Whist away I took far too many photographs of this flamboyance of flamingos at Paignton Zoo. I also love that a group of Flamingos is very aptly called a Flamboyance!

Around Here…I didn’t ever want to leave this apartment! I am pretty sure I could happily live there. It is owned by a fellow arty soul and blogger Sally and her husband Chris, who were just so lovely and we came away having made firm friends 🙂 Isn’t it wonderful when your path crossed with like-minded kindred spirits! You can check out Sally’s amazing art here

Around Here…We were saying “Hello Brixham, You Beauty!” Just look at those colours! This place definitely captured my heart.

Around Here…”I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” Candy floss and mango ice cream (separate scoops!) for me…well, we were on holiday!

Around Here…I was pretty much asking “Do we really have to go home!?” every half an hour! I could have sat and stared out of the window of our apartment all day.

Around Here…Alas! We had to head home…Only for the blow to be slightly softened by the really pretty illustrated autumn theme Starbucks cups – just a regular latte though, still a bit scared to try the pumpkin spiced latte! ☕

Around Here…I had just made a huge mug of tea and as if by ‘Magic’ this highly anticipated book fell though my letterbox! Perfect excuse to sit down and relax. I am so excited to read ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert –  one of my favourite authors. I loved her book ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ but this time she has captured my heart by talking about creative living beyond fear.

Around Here…After endless problems, send-backs and issues with my old Samsung Galaxy S4, I welcomed with open arms my new iPhone 6s Plus! It’s Rose Gold…Need I say more!?

Around Here…My lovely mum bought me gorgeous flowers to cheer me up as I was full of cold (who gets a cold after a holiday!?) Ignore the sink but they had just been watered! P.s. The ‘Spread a Little Sunshine on Your Toast This Morning’ print is available in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop 😉

Around Here…I was so obsessed with how good the camera is on the new iPhone but even more obsessed with those gorgeous flowers!

Around Here…”There is an old lady who lives in my soul, she loves to knit and drink tea” – My illustrated quote print is my best seller, this one flew it’s crafty goodness over to Virginia, USA! It is also back in stock in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop! Hooray!

Around Here…Better late than never! I was tagged by the lovely Amy of Boldly Gold blog with #WIDN (what I’m doing now) – currently learning to weave on a mini loom (rather than my peg loom) thanks to Mollie Makes magazine’s free gift this month. Pure relaxation – I am a little bit obsessed!

Around Here…We sat and watched the sun go down at one of our favourite quiet havens – Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds. We are very lucky to only live about 10 minutes away from this amazing view. It looked like someone had splashed a giant orange paint-laden brush across the horizon and dripped some streetlight speckles from way up there!

Wowee! I am so so glad I was able to capture all of these lovely moments along my journey last month. I can’t believe we are in October already! Autumn is upon us. If you are in need of a quick and easy Autumn craft, last year I created my own Glitter Autumn Leaf Garland Tutorial or if you are need of a dose of Autumnal colour therapy, I am still very proud of my photographs in ‘Hello Autumn’.

This weekend we are off to Grand Designs Live at Birmingham’s NEC. Come and say hello if you are there and if not I will be sharing snippets on Instagram! If you are unsure as to whether to go, here are my thoughts about it last year in Grand Designs Live –  Part One and Grand Designs Live – Part Two and check in later in the month for this year’s round-up of thoughts, photos and Grand Design Live goodness! I can’t wait!

How was your September? Have you been to the seaside this year? Are you off to Grand Designs Live? I would love to hear all about it!

Hi Rachel. What great photos! I loved your blog. Funnily enough, I was brought up on pawpaws (we call papaya fruit pawpaws in Australia) but I think I always preferred the look of them to the taste; they’re so gorgeously coloured but don’t they taste a bit sicky to you? It might just be me – nobody else has ever confirmed my thoughts on this issue. Keep up the good work. Lots of love, Sally xxxx

Aww! Thank you Sally! I agree, I was expecting the papaya to be really exotic and fresh but I wasn’t a fan at all, a bit disappointing because they look so wonderful! Thanks for stopping by lovely 🙂 xx

What a lovely post Rachel! I have to admit when I saw that you were using the weaving loom from Molly Makes I went out and bought a copy myself just so I could have a go! It’s so relaxing, isn’t it?
