Happy Holidays Hand Lettering and Rose Floral Christmas Wreath with Button Holly and Berries by Eliston Button - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Magical New Year! at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe we are at the last blog post of the year! WE MADE IT!! Hooray! If you read my For the Love of…Christmas blog post earlier this week, you will know how much I love this time of year but I am soooo ready to take a break over the holidays to recharge the creative batteries and power up again for the New Year.

I am really looking forward to taking a break this year. It’s been a full on year and I’m ready to sit down, pyjamas on and sip a cup of tea in front of Christmas telly, rather than having far too many tabs open in my brain about orders and blogging and social media whilst crafting like a crazy lady to keep up with sprout orders! Phew! I’m exhausted and as usual at this time of year, I am feeling a bit burnt out so a break has come at a really great time.

I’m like a big kid at Christmas. I love to get swept up in the magic and fairy lights and fuzzy warm feelings you get when you all come together and exchange gifts and eat aaaalllll the festive food!

I can never sleep on Christmas Eve from the excited anticipation and can’t wait to throw myself headfirst into the festivities in the morning!

One of my most vivid memories of Christmas Eve as a child (but definitely old enough to know better!) was sneaking out of bed and tip-toeing to the window to peek out, desperately searching the stars for one that looked like a sleigh. I was eager to hear the sound of jingle bells on the roof and the soft thuds of footsteps on the slate roof tiles. Mum always told us that Father Christmas always gave the presents to Dad in the porch and Dad put them under the tree for him, as not to scare us with the thought of a strange man entering our house via the chimney (and in hindsight to cover their backs just in case they were caught placing them around the tree!)

Yet, I still imagined Rudolf along with Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner, and Blitzen all sat up on the roof, eating the carrots I placed outside for them on a festive plate…

I always think of this on Christmas Eve and always make sure I glance out of the window before crawling into bed…you know…just in case…

For the Love of…Christmas

For the Love of...Christmas by Eliston Button - For the Love of…Christmas at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello lovely Buttoneers! If you have been following this here bloggity-blog for a few years or more now – Or even since the last festive season to be honest! – You will know how much I love Christmas. It is my favourite holiday of the year. I am obsessed. Recently we also had a huge chunk of snow descend upon us and I was like a child at…well…Christmas! Neighbours had put up their decorations and lit up their lights and IT SNOWED!!

I looked out of the window every time I woke up that night eagerly awaiting the frosty treasure like a child looking for Father Christmas on Christmas Eve – It was wonderful.

I loved the snow filled adventures and the crunch beneath our feet. I loved the rosy red cheeks and the hunter-gathering for supplies into the blizzardy wilderness (well, to the shops down the road!) I loved walking through Narnia when we walked through the untouched snow in the woods and slide our way home for hot mugs of tea. I even loved shovelling the piles of snow off the car and using a plastic box to dig our way out of the drive (getting soggy socks in the process) not to mention that it was super Christmasy and full of glittering magic out there!

I love the soft quiet air and the friendliness of people. You get that when it snows don’t you – People you pass in the street say hello with a comforting smile as if its just you and them left in the world, battling the elements. People chat to you when you finally make it to the shops, chatting about the weather (definitely a British thing!) or getting to work or the panic buying of bread and milk as if its the apocalypse or something. It’s funny isn’t it!?

I love the way that snow changes everything. Everything looks soft and rounded. Every thing looks calm and pretty. Everything looks like magic.

Tutorial Tuesday – A Creative Christmas Card *Video* Tutorial

Tutorial Tuesday Original Banner Pink Background - Tutorial Tuesday - Fabric Scrap Christmas Wreath at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! You know I love a good craft tutorial and you know that I LOVE Christmas…Well today I am smushing the two wonderful and festive doses of magic together into a Creative Christmas Card Tutorial! Hooray! Now you may have noticed that I have titled this blog post with the word *video* and might be surprised at the new bloggity-blog format…well, recently I was asked to make a video for a possible future crafty adventure and I thought I would create one that I could also share with you lovelies too.

Turns out you can do a lot of things when you put your mind to it, add a smidge of determination and a dollop of blind faith and sometimes…just sometimes, it’s magic.

Now, if you know me in real life or have been following this little corner of the internet for a long time, you may know that shoving my face in front of a camera and chatting away is absolutely not second nature to me. In fact, shoving my face in front of a camera and then sharing it with the world (well, you lovely lot!) is soooooo far out of my comfort zone that I can barely reach it with my crafty little fingers. But, I grabbed the bull by the horns, threw caution to the wind, hoped for the best and (after about a thousand takes) didn’t entirely hate how it turned out. In fact, in the end, I really enjoyed it, it felt liberating and I was ever so jolly proud of myself for even thinking I could do it. Sat in front of a video camera. Trying not to cringe at the sound of your own voice on the playback – What’s with that by the way!? Why do we all sound so different to how we sound in our heads!?

Rather than this video to be hidden away into the deepest corners of my hard drive, never to be seen again, I thought I’d document that I was once brave enough to jump of the creative cliff and figured out how to fly (ish) on the way down…

As it is my first video I can assure you it’s not all polished to perfection and all singing, all dancing with a cherry on top fabulous, but I can promise my very best effort and a few laughs at the end. I put a lot of enthusiasm into this and that’s what counts right!? So without further ado…Here is my Tutorial Tuesday – A Creative Christmas Card Video Tutorial…

P.S. There are bloopers 😉

Meet the Maker Week 2017

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! Cast your minds back to last December and you may remember that I took part in the lovely Joanne Hawker’s Meet the Maker Week. Last year the challenge was super scary for me, I was really starting to find my feet in the creative community and throwing myself out there further than I already do with this blog etc was a massive dive into the deep end. I looked back on last year’s Meet the Maker Week blog post and I want to run and hug 29 year old me and tell her to take her time, to relax…maybe even stop taking on too much! I was so nervous about each Instagram post I posted for each prompt, feeling a bit of a fraud when of course I wasn’t, I was just new! (Although I absolutely still feel like this sometimes!) I came out the other end feeling so proud of myself for joining in and so much more confident about myself and my job and the things I make.

Fast forward to this year and I can’t believe how much has changed.

I almost didn’t join in as this time of year is always super busy with Christmas orders and blog posts and general seasonal festivities, but I am so glad I did. I felt a lot more confident to join in because the friendships I had started this time last year amongst the other makers have grown and blossomed so I felt way less scared of making those initial interactions and worrying about what everyone would think.

I know so many wonderful makers now that it felt a lot less of a scary unknown party that you rock up to in fancy dress and it isn’t fancy dress!

This was great because it meant that I could be completely myself and share myself and my work to new people I was yet to meet and found new friends along the way! When I work from my little studio at home it can get a little lonely in the daytime, so having like-minded biz buddies along for the ride to be able to hash out the ins and outs of Facebook or the new seller features of Etsy or the new hoops to jump through on Instagram is wonderful and makes such a difference.

It’s like having a natter with a big mug of tea in a creative coffee shop but cosier and in my pyjamas…Someone seriously needs to invent that!

That said, I think that there is always going to be a part of me that is scared. Always a part of me that shies away from making the first step into something new or gets anxious about a new adventure in to the unknown – I think that’s a good thing though. I never want to take it for granted or stop pushing myself to make bigger and better things, to jump off the comfort zone cliff once in a while and see what magic might happen on the way down.

Making new products that I have designed and made myself, putting a load of heart and soul and a whole heap of handmade magic into is one thing, but throwing it out into the wild to be seen and looked at, for people to decide if they like it or not, to judge it or even part with hard earned money for it is super scary…Every.Single.Time. But, challenges like Meet the Maker Week show me that everyone is in the same pond, some of us are just on relatively new boats trying to figure out the oars whilst others are in yachts and ships and cruise liners even – but we are all still pushing away from the edge and into the unknown and doing what we love, every single day – After all who knows what being a maker will be like in 20 or 30 years from now? Who knows what Etsy or even the Internet will be like? Being all together and being reminded of that is a real comfort.

Not to mention getting to tell you lovelies a bigger slice of who we all are alongside a dollop of the creative goodness and treasures we have to offer on the side.

I wanted to share my answers to the prompts over here on the blog to share with those of you that are new to Eliston Button *Waves* or those who are yet to follow me on Instagram or Facebook but also so they are a more permanent reminder of who I was and what I was making, documenting them for myself to look back on in years to come. As a real memory keeper I will love to see how much has changed or see how I will answer the prompts in 5 or even 10 years time (I hope Eliston Button is still around that far into the future!) If you are a regular Buttoneer in this little corner of the creative blogosphere then you may already know some of it, or maybe you can learn a bit more about me and my little creative business…alongside a heap of sparkle heart and rainbow emoji’s!

Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Brooches!

Eliston Button Etsy Shop Banner - Eliston Button Etsy Shop Refresh at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe it is December tomorrow – Where has this year gone!? I blooming love this time of year because of sooooo many things but Etsy shop wise – It’s all about the sprouts! Who knew that this little idea in my creative imagination would turn out to be my best seller at this time of year!? I even sold a garland in March – now that is what I call organised! I have been rushed off my crafty little feet getting sprouts made and out the door this year – I have limited stock at the moment so if you were planning on decking the halls with fluffy sprouts this year keep this in mind.  Lots of pom pom making in my future I think!

Last year the Pom Pom Sprouts made their debut as part of my Create 30 Blog challenge as a Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Garland and then later by request, as individual Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Decorations. That then led to selling them as a Pack of Four – One of each of the four different party hat combinations.

All year I have thought up new ideas for these little sprouty fluffles but most ideas got lost in a sea of other makes and busy schedules and they all got put to one side. A few months ago, during a stock take of handmade treasures, I came across the Christmas sprouts but with my headaches and migraines (and the short hospital stay) this autumn, they all got a bit delayed until recently and the ideas bloomed once more. Hooray!

I have been squirrelling away behind the scenes like a Christmas elf tweaking away, measuring little pom pom sprouts for glittery party hats and filling them with Christmas magic to get them out on time for the festive season!

So, without further ado…Here are my new Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Brooches…I hope you love them as much Rudolph loves Carrots! (That’s a lot!)
