Hello lovely Buttoneers! Since the very beginning of my Create 28 ideas, I envisioned a mix of art and crafts and handmade goodness that I could play around with, decide what crafty makes would survive my harsh inner-critic, which projects I loved and which projects I loathed. Amongst my great vision of ideas (most of which were seriously crazy pants, especially in the time frame!) I always imagined I would return to painting. I loved painting whilst I studied art and design at college.
I loved the therapeutic processes, the smell of the paints, the daunting blank canvas, the deliberate brush strokes against the textured surface and the sense of accomplishment at the finish line. I loved the idea that you have created a small piece of your imagination out there for all to see, the slither of your soul laid bare in colour and movement…
I knew I had to dust off my easel, grab my paintbrushes out of the old jam jar pot and explore the possibilities…This in turn became its own mini collection of paintings, that I am truly proud of (so much so that I almost kept them for myself!)
First up is ‘Summer Skies’…
You lie back onto a picnic blanket in the long grass and gaze up towards the bright blue sky filled with summer haze and white fluffy, wispy clouds. You take a deep breath of fresh air into the top of your lungs, you breathe out all of your worries and troubles that float on the breeze away from your own little piece of heaven.
That is exactly the feeling I wanted to bottle up and keep forever! Instead I tried to capture the essence of a summer sky and everything that it brings to mind.
Each brush stroke has been lovingly and deliberately swished across the textured canvas to capture the depth and colour of a dreamy summer sky. Each wisp of cloud carefully placed to pool in a sea of blue tones and shades to create a calm effect across the whole piece.
Or maybe you don’t see the sky in this piece, maybe you see a calm sea or pond, where your imagination floats around in a state of relaxation. Either way or wherever this canvas is hung it is sure to instil harmony and a dose of serene goodness to your day. Whether it is hung in your office, your home or even your summer house, the cool blues and calming wisps of white will add an eye-catching piece of art to your space.
Next up is calm waters…
To me, a calm mass of water can be just as full of energy and colour as a rough sea or a babbling brook. The tranquillity of a slow ripple caused by a breeze or the relaxing sounds of the calm waters flowing and ebbing can create a dance of light across its glassy surface and paint a depth of complex colours beneath.
I wanted to try to capture this movement and serenity in the carefully chosen colour palette and deliberate brush strokes of this acrylic painted canvas.
I wanted to create light and shadow and waves and ripples alongside depth of colours to capture your imagination and sail you on a journey on calm waters every time you look at this piece.
Whether it is hung as a calming influence in a lounge or bedroom, or even an office, you are sure to connect your own piece of paradise to this art piece and personalise it with your thoughts of calm at each glance.
The deep blue’s merge into greys, whilst crisp whites are submerged into lighter blue tones to create a playful light.
Finally, there is Starry Night Sky…
I want you to be swept away on a journey through a starry night sky, gazing at hazy, night time clouds, making wishes on shooting star speckles and getting lost in an intense deep blue sea of brush strokes…
I have always loved the night sky, rich in colour and depth with the light of a million stars gazing down on us where ever we are. I am fascinated by its beauty and vastness, its breath-taking splendour and wanted to try to capture just a small section of it in my painting.
The painting is layered in acrylic painted tones of colour to develop the exuberant, deep blues, greys and blue-black shades of the piece. A titanium white acrylic paint was then carefully and deliberately scattered, like the stars themselves, onto the dry work to create an eye catching and realistic effect that takes you deep into your imagination of soaring through the grey paintbrush stroke wisps of cloud.
I am sure this piece would look beautiful in any space, perhaps to gaze at before closing your eyes and drifting off to sleep…maybe in a stargazer’s office or in a dreamy nursery. Wherever you hang this piece it is sure to capture your imagination and I hope, take you on a journey of wonder.
The deep edge of the canvas continues the artwork down the sides so that when hung it is seen from all angles. The canvas is attached to a chunky wooden frame and how you hang the canvas is left entirely up to you.
Each of the three sea and sky painted canvases are approx. 20x20cm and 3.5cm deep.
Phew! Another Create 28 project of crafty goodness bites the dust! What do you think to these? I think they may be right up there with my Hand Printed Streetscape Cards for competing for favourite! I so enjoyed painting again and am so thrilled with how these turned out. I really don’t want to part with them! You can own one of these lovelies by exploring the Eliston Button Etsy Shop after you have finished this post as I will launch them in there right away (and wipe away a small tear!)
I just have to remember that if one of you lovelies decide to invest in Eliston Button by buying one of my items, it allows me to take time to further my craft and make and design and create all the more and I thank you for that (even if some of my crafty makes have to be prised away from me at the Post Office!)
Which is your favourite canvas? Where would you hang one of them? I would love to hear all about it.
Meet me for a chat with a cup of tea in the comments below. I’ll click the kettle on!
