Create 28 – No.3 – Embroidered Felt Petal Hair Comb Slides

Create 28 – a new Eliston Button Blog Challenge! at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid

Hello there Buttoneers! Happy Thursday! I am a little later with my post this week as I am trying to push myself back into work mode after a lovely valentines weekend away with my gorgeous fiancé. It. Is. So. Hard. I am struggling to disconnect from beach mode and connect with emails and blog posts and technology in general!

Aaahh, to be on permanent holiday mode, to breathe in sea air and release positive vibes all day long…

Surely we would end up taking it for granted (although I am positive that I never would) Anyway, back to reality it is and at least it is a pleasant start with the next instalment of my Create 28 blog challenge – Number 3 – Embroidered Felt Petal Hair Comb Slides. I thoroughly enjoyed making Create 28 – No.2 – Embroidered Felt Petal Earrings and wanted to create a similar theme but on a different medium. I love dressing up and making my hair pretty so a hair comb slide that can be slipped into a beautiful style (when my hair is playing nice, otherwise I just have to make do!) and finish off my outfit and matching earrings

If you missed out on the start of Create 28 and my older posts you can catch up here.

I wanted to make them to match the earring sets that I created from Create 28 – No.2 so that they can be bought as a matching set or collection if needed, but also so that they could be worn individually too. I am so in love with these and can imagine them being worn either every day or dressed up in a fancy hair-do for the evening or to a big event!

Oooo the stories these pretty little hair combs will be able to tell!

Each of the four little felty petals on this hair comb slide are individually hand embroidered, right down to their pretty little chevron tips using a complimenting blue embroidery thread that adds a final touch and pulls together the flower petal design.

The deep royal blue felt contrasts beautifully and subtly edges the crisp white felt on the top and are together hand cut into zigzag points creating an elegant and fun look that is really versatile.

Each of the four little felty leaves on this hair comb slide are individually hand embroidered and beaded with tiny seed beads. The deep chocolate brown felt oozes with indulgence and contrasts beautifully with the rich raspberry embroidery thread. Each embroidered petal is tipped with a tiny, yet eye-catching seed bead that adds a little bit of loveliness to each one. The felted leaves are completed with a blanket stitch to create a gorgeous texture and soft cushioned appearance around each edge.

I loved the little green leaves in my earrings collection and knew I would enjoy creating even more and placing them together for this hair comb slide. I love how the tiny seed beads catch the light and glisten subtly as if the sunlight is dappling on the trees. I love the light that this process creates and wanted to recreate it with this design.

I can imagine the leaves poking out from behind a hair bun like a crown worn by Mother Nature herself!

I love the warmth of the colours for this hair comb slide. I love the warm grey slate coloured felt and how it luxuriates with the deep purple berry coloured embroidery thread. Subtle with a punch of colour. Neutral enough to team with any outfit, yet versatile enough to blend with any colour palette you may chose. I love the richness of the colours and how they complement each other so beautifully.

I also may have got a little carried away with making these beauties and experimented with a trio of colours to pack a punch of fun and vibrancy to my hair comb slide collection. I wish I had made an earring set to match and may do in the future. I adore the zesty orange contrasting with the bright teal embroidery thread and how they are brought together wonderfully with the indigo blue coloured felt. Each hand stitched petal is hugged by a thin strip of felty goodness and brings together the overall design. I think I may have a new favourite colour combination!

Each dose of felty goodness is carefully attached to a silver coloured metal hair comb slide that has rounded ends for comfort and ease of use that will simply glide into your hair to add a beautiful finishing touch.

Each felt petal is individual and each design slightly different, but they roughly all measure approx. 3-4cm tall making the whole hair comb slide approx. 5-6cm in height and are all 8.5cm wide, but please do check in on my Etsy shop listings for each hair comb slides unique sizes.

So, there you go! No.3 complete. The end seems a long way off and it seems like I will never have another minute to myself but I am so eager to see what else is in store. I am excited to try new things and explore new creative avenues but need to remember to slow down and take some time out too. Which is why I am taking a short blogging break to re-gather my thoughts and get rid of any sort of burn-out that I can feel biting at my heels. I want to be able to fire on all cylinders when making and creating and writing and at the moment I feel like that is slowly slipping. So, I feel it is better for me to take a break now rather than burn out completely and take longer to recover – I knew you would understand 🙂

For now I will leave you with this post and I will launch this latest dose of crafty goodness into my Etsy Shop this afternoon so be sure to explore! Which is your favourite hair comb slide? Do you have a favourite colour combination? What would you like to see in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop? I would love to hear all about it!
