Hello there Buttoneers! I have the second in my Create 28 Blog Challenge ready for you! This is all very excititg minus the full on panic I had the other night that I have taken on too much again (Will I ever learn!?) But you know what they say,
“If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”
…Jeez mine must be dinosaur dreams! Did you miss No.1 in Create 28?
Anyhoo, on with the show…This week I decided to create earrings! Earrings are something I have wanted to dabble in for a long time. I wear earrings every day and am always on the lookout for new and exciting designs that I can either wear in the day or when I go out in the evening. Way back when I was creating 27 embroidered felt flower brooches for last year’s blog challenge ’27 before 27′, I played around with different petal shapes, designs and colour combinations and really enjoyed the process and the creativity.
For this challenge I wanted to get away from the brooches a bit to play around with new ideas and test the waters before I commit myself to just being a brooch maker, I wanted to spread my wings and have a bit of fun with other ideas. When I was making a list of all the things for Create 28, I looked back on things I had played around making in the past and remembered that I had made a pair of felt petal earrings out of a few spare felt embroidered petals I had over made. This got the cogs turning and I loved the idea of stepping up the game from the flower brooches and trialled making the petals smaller and more intricate and even adding seed beads (the new bane of my life!)
I am sure I will be finding seed beads around the
studio house for months!
I seriously enjoyed making them and I love the new colour combinations like these rich chocolate and raspberry tones…The deep chocolate brown felt oozes with indulgence and contrasts beautifully with the rich raspberry embroidery thread creating an elegant and fun look that is really versatile and super gorgeous!
…and these deep emerald greens that make up leaves. I hand stitched each part of the embroidery design to look like the delicate veins of a leaf and much like leaves, each are individual. Each embroidered leaf vein is tipped with a tiny, yet eye-catching seed bead that adds a little bit of loveliness to each unique pair. The felted leaves are completed with a blanket stitch to create a gorgeous texture around each edge. I am not normally a fan of green but these earrings are one of my absolute favourites!
The deep royal blue felt of these earrings contrasts beautifully and subtly edges the crisp white felt on the top. I together hand cut them into zigzag points and carefully selected a complimenting blue embroidery thread to add a final touch and complete the design.
These felt petal shaped earrings are made up of hand embroidered, tiny slate grey coloured felt petals that are hugged by a larger felt petal of the same warm colour. I wanted to add a dimensional layer to each earring that created a gorgeous flower petal design. The warm slate grey felt petals are beautifully complimented by the rich plum coloured embroidery thread and I love this colour combination a lot.
These earrings are for pierced ears and each pair of antique bronze lever backs are (obviously!) brand new. The antique bronze coloured lever back clips into place at the back for added security and gives you peace of mind that you won’t lose these little gems!
Each of the petals varies in size (sizes will be added to the listing description in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop) but are no longer than the longest one at approx. 3.5cm
Wowee! Another on bites the dust! I don’t think I have forgotten to tell you anything but as always if you have any questions, however big or small, please send me a Hello. So, what do you think!? Which is your favourite colour combination? Do you prefer beads or no beads? I am so excited to hear your thoughts!
These embroidered felt petal and leaf earrings will be in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop today! Yeay!
