Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am back with another Create 30 blog challenge make – I think I had a bit of a panic when I realised I hadn’t hit the half way mark yet when I was chatting to you a few weeks ago about my ‘You are my World’ Button Art Quote Prints! Eeekk!
If you have followed this here little corner of the crafty blogosphere for a while now or even on Instagram you may recognise this next dose of handmade goodness.
I shared a few photos here and there and even had a fun competition a few years ago with it. Well I loved it a lot and was always a little sad that it didn’t ever have its chance to shine like the other treasures in my little handmade treasure trove on Etsy.
Just before Christmas last year, I took part in an Etsy Secret Santa in the lovely group of makers I am in that have formed an amazing little community over on Facebook. We all help each other out if we are stuck and give a little happy dance for each other when we have good news and successes. For my pairing for the Secret Santa, the lady I was paired with loved the beach and the colour blue – So naturally I gifted her one of my Fabric Beach Collage Prints.
I wondered what I could send her alongside it as my crafty little fingers were twitchy with eagerness to make something different.
I haven’t made a new embroidered felt flower brooch since my ’27 before 27′ Blog Challenge and I really missed playing with beautifully soft felt and creating new embroidered designs so I dug out my sketches from waaaayyy back and got to work!
I had such a wonderful response from the lovely lady that received it that I just knew I had to make another one for this challenge! So without further ado…Here is Create 30 – No.14 – Blue and White Embroidered Felt Flower Brooch…
I really love the fresh, crisp colour palette of this flower brooch and it is sure to brighten any outfit with its soft, felty goodness. Maybe you would refresh the look of your favourite handbag or pin together a special scarf? Maybe you would buy two and pin them to your shoes for a real spring in your swanky new step!?
The beautiful blue embroidery thread was carefully handpicked to stand out cheerfully against the wonderfully crisp white colour of the felt.
Each petal is individually hand embroidered with a swirl-like tendril that winds along the petal and branches off into three little curls, before being blanket stitched to the petals underside.
This allows a seamless back to the felt flower brooch and hides away the messy back side of the embroidery. The blanket stitch flows around the outside of the petal giving it a bold and bright outline and allows the finished brooch to stand out, even against a white shirt or jacket!
I pride myself on my neat and tidy brooch backs and want them to look almost as pretty as the front. I hand stitch each brooch back, which has a safety catch bar for extra security and peace of mind. I sew this onto a hand stitched circle of felt which in turn gets attached to the flower part of the brooch to make it more secure and pretty looking!
Each little stitch is very thoughtfully sewn to ensure an even stitch line and to help gently pad the petals out to form a more dimensional appearance, before being individually sewn to the outer loops of the silver coloured metal centrepiece.
The centrepiece is beautifully detailed with a gorgeous twist detail around the outside of the antique inspired flat centre oval shape.
This blue and white embroidered felt flower brooch is approx. 11.5cm in diameter and really catches your eye as a gorgeous statement piece.
This brooch will brighten up any lacking lapel, hold together a pretty pashmina, decorate a beautiful bag or even be framed for a piece of wonderful wall art! The possibilities are endless. It is Ready to Ship but if you would prefer a different colour palette, please do not hesitate to contact me for a chat about your ideas or with a custom order – How exciting!
