Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am super excited to share this next Create 30 blog challenge make with you! I have had this idea that span around in my head for years – Yes years! It got mixed up like a ball of wool in my creative imagination and each time I unravelled it, I came up with new ideas and changes and never really settled on anything concrete until recently. I don’t know whether it was the pressure and deadlines of our recent house move or whether that jumbled up ball of wool finally got untangled and I could see how I wanted it to look.
I always knew that I wanted to paint the background of this one to make it a bit more personal, much like when I illustrated my ‘Knit and Drink Tea‘ prints which expanded to ‘Crochet and Drink Tea‘ and ‘Crochet the Day Away‘ prints, or when I added images of my handmade felt flowers to the ‘Just Want to Nap‘ fun print. As the house move loomed in front of me and I still hadn’t packed up the Eliston Button Headquarters, I just knew that if I was going to get the messy paints out and experiment with colour and texture and…well, MESS! Then I was going to have to do it before we moved so that I had the right space.
I wanted to be able to lay it all out, make a mess of creativity, enjoy the process, let my trial and error attempts dry and finally sift out what looked most like the now clear imagine in my arty, crafty brain!
This one means a lot to me. The original quote for this print came to my creative imagination one night when my fiancé and I lay on our sun loungers in the garden in the middle of the night (wrapped up warm in layers of coats and blankets!) to try to spot shooting stars.
I remember the magical feeling as my eyes searched the depths of the starry night sky and felt like we were the only people in the world allowed to see its treasure.
I scribbled down a rough idea of what I wanted to capture from that magical night and filed it away in my ‘maybe quotes for future maybe print ideas’ folder – It’s a total minefield of scribbled notes and torn off pieces of paper or napkins – Inspiration strikes while the glue gun is hot! – Or something like that isn’t it!?
Amongst the sea of ideas and sketches and the less organised part of my brain, it has always stuck with me. When I decided to embark on another creative blog challenge adventure I just knew it had to be in the mix somewhere now that I knew exactly how I wanted it to look.
So without further ado…Here is Create 30 – No.23 – Shooting Star Quote Print…
“She lay in the dark of the garden and watched shooting stars with magic in her eyes…”
Have you ever lay down in the garden or at the park at night and watched for shooting stars across the velvety sky? Can you remember that magical excitement that bubbles up when you see you first one? Did you see it trail across the inky sky in a flash of stardust and magic as you glimpse a slice of the sky’s treasure? Maybe you made a little wish…Maybe you made a really great wish…
Perfect for stargazers and dreamers and magic makers. Fabulous for wishers and sky lovers and travellers through time and space!
The background of the print was hand painted in acrylic paint in beautiful blue hues and inky black streaks before being digitally rendered into the correct size and proportions for the print. The gorgeous texture of the brush strokes across the canvas were deliberately left visible to create a more dimensional and tactile feel onto a smooth, flat piece of wonderful wall art.
Stars are illustrated across the print like scattered moon dust in the sky, in tiny diamond clusters and large shining gems. A galaxy of wishes glittering across the print alongside white wisps of cloud and a deep inky sky. A shooting star sparkles across the top right of the print and is captured just above the first line of typed words…
A contrast of typed font and hand lettering build up the quote which sits beautifully in the centre of the print, catching your eye and drawing you in to a milky way of possibility. I love the soft flow of the hand lettering with its curling flow between the hard edges of the chosen font.
I have chosen the words that most stood out to me to hand letter to grab your attention and allow you to get swept away in the whimsical nature of the letters and the magic of the words.
This shooting star original quote print is A4 size which is approx. 29.7 x 21cm. The print you will receive will be printed on to a high quality card with rich coloured inks ensuring a high quality print.
This print is sure to catch your eye, add gorgeous deep colour and a sprinkle of magic and wonderment to your home decor.
Maybe you would hang it in your bedroom to fall asleep dreaming of shooting star wishes or galaxy’s far, far away? Or maybe in your living room as a daily reminder of the magic that is out there?
