Creating My Own Wall Art

I was creating my first mini scrapbook of a holiday I have just got back from and found myself, as I usually do, getting pulled towards a new project. As I was sifting through the hundreds of photographs I took in France, I came across one of my favourites. Not only was it one of those photographs that you take and every time you look at it it transports you back to that exact moment, but it was one that I just loved for its simplicity. Creating My Own Wall Art…

I haven’t played around with my graphics tablet for years. Arm in arm with a new version of Photoshop, I knew just what I wanted to add to make the stand alone scrapbook page grab my attention and really feel complete. I opened the file in Photoshop, connected up the graphics tablet and played around with hand rendering my own handwriting as a font. This got way too complicated and I was in danger of losing interest and finding a new project (I am a bit fickle with projects, I flit around lot!) and then it dawned on me that I should just write directly onto the photograph. This looked awful and I had to re-print my photograph :/ Finally, I had it, I combined the handwriting with the graphics tablet and tried writing directly onto the photograph , but this time digitally…

It took a fair few attempts, mainly because I am an annoying perfectionist, but I loved it and the free flowing scrawls made me believe it was written in the sky by the sea breeze. I added the word sunshine underneath as this was the best bit about the photo, the blueness of the sky because of the glorious day. It was also the first day of the holiday and was so nice to see sunshine!

I love it so much that I knew I had to print another one for my studio to inspire me on cloudy days!

I found a frame I had lying around, mounted it up and Voilà! It looked really good. I was so proud of it and that I would have actually bought this in a shop. It occurred to me that I could create my own art prints for the walls of our home, inexpensively and personal to us. That way I could also change them as often as I wanted to. I loved it too much to be behind me in the studio and as I wandered around trying to find the right spot, I noticed that it fitted perfectly at the top of the stairs underneath one of my favourite canvases that I found at a car boot sale years ago.

Its like they were made for each other in their dreamy blue hues…
