Custom Orders and Creative Imagination

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am just popping in today to share a small post about a huge dose of creative imagination! Wowee!

Cast you minds back (or imagine it if you are a newbie Buttoneer!) to my Create 28 blog challenge last year – remember it? Well, stretch your memories a little further way back to the French knitted flower hair grips. Okay, now we are all on the same page which and that makes this post waaaaaay easier to explain!

If it helps you to imagine them, over in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop I describe them as:

“Sumptuous raspberry pink coloured wool/yarn (quite possibly hand-spun by little raspberry fairies!) has been knitted into a long continuous piece of woven loveliness, using the French knitting technique.

With a huge dollop of love and large amount of crafty goodness, I carefully hand stitched the knitted rope-like tube into a pretty flower shape and added a silver-coloured metal alligator grip to the back”

Well, last month I received an Etsy conversation from a lovely lady who asked if I could make two of my Raspberry Pink French Knitted Hair Grips for her daughter. I was thrilled to be able to help and got to knitting right away. Side Note: It is waaaay harder to get two handmade items to look exactly the same, than you think – which is fabulous as everyone gets a unique piece, that is unique to them – however when you need two for one person, it is hard!

I knitted away and completed the order and I was really happy with how they turned out. You may have spotted the sneak peek of my work in progress on Instagram!

I love how they look together as a pair too – just take in that gorgeous raspberry pink colour!

So, here is where the creative imagination comes in…

I parcelled them up all pink and pretty (Again, sneak peeks of my packaging can be found on my Instagram) and awaited my lovely customers thoughts. Picture my surprise when I am sent a fabulous email (with photos!!) of the item in use, and even more surprise when she tells me that she asked for the custom order so that she could use them as curtain tie backs to complete her daughter’s bedroom! She said:

“We LOVE them! Thank you for the effort you made and even how beautifully they were wrapped! You take real pride in your work which is just lovely! I haven’t used them as intended actually (should have mentioned before) but I wanted them for tie backs for my daughters room!! They look so pretty and she loves them! THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

How creative is her imagination! I would never have thought about using them as curtain tie backs!

Don’t they look so beautiful against the creamy white curtains and the gorgeous silky ribbon, let alone the real pop of colour and contrast it adds to those lovely wooden blinds behind! I was all squealy and happy and so chuffed that my little doses of creative goodness were sent to a loving home where they will be seen every day. Wowee!

That makes my crafty little heart so happy 🙂

What else can you think of using them for? I guess the alligator clip on the back opens their use up to any sort of decorative piece. You could clip them in your hair, on a handbag, on a lapel as a brooch, and now even as home décor that is easy-peasy to change depending on your colour palette! Blimey, the possibilities are now endless thanks to my lovely customer and her creative imagination!

Imagine a rainbow collection of French knitted flowers to swap and change whenever you please! I better get knitting!

I love to get custom order requests as it takes the handmade goodness a step further by making it a truly unique and personal piece. Most of my arty, crafty items are available for custom order requests and I will always chat away with you about your ideas or even new ideas you would like commissioned, with no obligation or pressure to go through with them! How cool is that!?

Where would you add one of these French knitted flowers in your home? Do you have a creative idea you would like to chat to me about? Either chat away in the comments, send me a private message on the ‘Contact Me’ page or better still head over to the Eliston Button Etsy Shop (where these hair grips are now back in stock – Hooray!) and start a conversation – I won’t bite I promise! I would love to hear what you think!

Also, before I sign off, I am planning some exciting new things for the future of Eliston Button and am spending some time making changes and executing crafty ideas behind the scenes. I am always around for a chat with each and every one of you; I just might be a little radio silent here and there with blog posts! Just bear with me and then when I am all done, I can share it all with you and show you what I have been up to before heading back into a more scheduled blog post routine! Phew!

Until next time, meet me for a chat with a cup of tea in the comments below. I’ll click the kettle on!
