I am really new to carving my own stamps. It kind of just happened one day when i was really fed up of trawling through craft websites to find the ‘perfect’ stamp for a project. So i grabbed my craft knife and hacked away carefully at one of my pencil eraser rubbers, and voilà! Hand Carved Rubber Stamps!
Okay…okay.. its wasn’t exactly ‘voilà’ and there it was, i went through a few erasers to get to this point, including my first attempt. I was so proud of it and inked it up ready to stamp, found the perfect piece of paper to make the stamp stand out.
Braced myself for an imaginary round of applause and pat on the back, stamped it down and…
Have you spotted it yet? The stamp does ‘perfectly’ say ‘Eliston’ but not if you stamp it down on paper. Doh! I cant believe it didn’t even enter my brain that it would have to be carved as a mirror image! ahhh!
At least it turned out okay in the end and actually I am pretty darn proud of myself. So much so that I couldn’t stop carving stamps.
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions for things to carve? Have you had a do at hand carving rubber stamps? How have they turned out?
