Hello there Buttoneers! This is my final post of 2014 before I take a break over the Christmas period (that still sounds soooooo weird!) and I just wanted to pop in and say hello before I hang up my sparkly blogging pyjamas and put my buttons away until January.
This year has been absolute crazy pants. I pressed that big scary publish button on this blog on 7th January, kept my head (just!) above water and just kept swimming (like a crazy lady with arms flailing and my hair all
shockingly frizzy effortlessly full of volume)
Which means that Eliston Button is almost 1 whole year old!! Can you believe it!? Keep your eyes peeled next year – I may have a few surprises up my crafty little sleeves!
January seems like such a long time ago for me this year but in other thoughts it seems crazy to me that I have been blogging for almost a year. I made a few blog posts before I launched too; my most popular being my Quilted Christmas Bauble Tutorial and my Handmade Christmas Round-Up
I then launched into my ’27 before 27′ Blog Challenge where I challenged myself to make 27 different felt flower brooches before I turned 27 in June. This was crazy!! Not only had I totally underestimated the time and work that would go into writing blog posts and photographing everything, but how hard it would be to get my crafty imagination into gear sometimes up to twice a week to design, embroider and craft together 27 flowers in a relatively short space of time. It was tough but I am soooooo glad I did it.
It gave me the opportunity to craft every day and even though there were a lot of tears and midnight panics and near breakdowns, I learnt a lot.
Not just about crafting but about blogging and people and…well…me!
In February, My fiancé and I found our dream home and after renting for almost ten years together, we decided to take a giant leap onto the property ladder and buy our first bought house.
This was super exciting until I realised that the move date would be the day after my 27th Birthday – A.K.A the end of my blog challenge – A.K.A Eliston Button Etsy Shop launch day – Eeeek!! I ended up making brooches amongst boxes and bags of our life belongings, finishing the challenge just days before my birthday, boxing up the brooches and moving in to our new house and pushing the launch date back to the 27th June (there was a definite ’27’ theme!) This went smoothly; I launched my shop and was very excited to be getting lovely feedback.
Our house on the other hand was not going smoothly. We had some problems to say the least and without going into builder-hating details we had two ceiling replacements (one being that of the just unpacked Eliston Button Headquarters and again here) and sooooo many painters, decorators and builders in and out of our house which meant that I was forced to work out of the house a lot of the last half of the year. This led to chunks of working away in a hotel for most weeks of November and into the start of December. I am happy to say that we are at a point where we can unpack (finally after 6 months) and I can start to rebuild the studio again and the rest of our home. Looking back I should have taken a blogging break so that I didn’t get so exhausted but I got there in the end and managed to organise myself and my posts ahead of time – Phew!
Typing it all out here in this post is tough. It is a reminder of our stressful and upsetting year but also I feel like words do not cover what we have been through.
I am so proud of myself for keeping at it though. I am proud of myself for not giving up, for continuously planning and writing and creating.
I just wanted you all to know. To know why sometimes my Instagram photos are a little thin on the ground, or why sometimes I just take a day off from Twitter. But mostly so that you know that I am so dedicated to this blog, to you lovely Buttoneers and that it has been (although a lot of stress at times) one of the things that has kept a great deal of normality in my life this year and I thank you all for that.
Over this crazy year I have celebrated my 50th blog post and my 100th blog post milestones, I have completed my blog challenge, Moved house, opened an Etsy Shop, created tutorials, taken a photo-a-day every day since March, written 114 blog posts – some fun, some serious and some right from my heart, gained just over an amazing 126,900 followers on Pinterest (Holy Cow!!) made my very first Etsy sale…
…but most importantly, I showed up every day to do something I loved, even if I felt like I wanted to curl up and hibernate forever. I am so proud of myself. I stuck at it. I began. I created. I did it.
I am super excited to see what 2015 holds for me and this little crafty nook of the Internet. Like I said, I have a few surprises up my crafty little sleeve and can’t wait to share them with you. I am excited to move forward from 2014 and into a (hopefully) lighter year. I am excited to rebuild the studio and get the Eliston Button Headquarters back in business (I will be sure to photograph and share when I am done!)
I am excited to see you all again, here on the blog, being my lovely Buttoneers, my cheerleaders and my friends.
Thank you so much for 2014…and 2015 – Please be kind…
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Fabulous New Year. May you all be happy and healthy and all of your dreams come true. Until next year lovelies you can find me on Instagram and Facebook and sometimes on Twitter.
What are your Christmas plans? Are you planning on crafting over Christmas? Do you have any suggestions for my crafty little blog for 2015? Any tutorial requests? I would love to hear all about it.
