Hello there my lovely Buttoneers! I am back and the ceiling in the studio has been replaced so now I am unpacking and figuring it all out all over again! If you missed this post you can read about it in ‘The Start of Something New’. I wanted to pop in today with my Photo-a-Day round-up for August as it was slightly different this time around.
You can view my past Photo-a-Day round-up posts by ‘choosing a button’ on the right hand side of the blog 🙂
August was a weird month around here. It was full of stops and starts, of packing up boxes of crafts supplies again, of having to be out of the house for builders, yadda yadda yadda (I am sure you are sick of hearing about it by now!) But this meant that my usually enjoyable Photo-a-Day challenge was all over the place with my mind being elsewhere. I had to think on-the-go and spontaneously without having familiar props or crafty bits to help me. At the time I felt like I was skimming through the prompts quickly to get them done until the next day where the process would happen again and again until the end of the month. This in some case was true. However, I look back over this last month and not only can I tell you where I was for each prompt but I feel like they all document a whole month of upheaval that I wouldn’t ordinarily of been able to document.
This is exactly why I love participating in the Photo-a-Day challenges. I love that whatever is going on in my life or with my little creative biz, I will have a record of it all.
I went through the photos yesterday and was totally surprised at the amount of them I loved. I was surprised at how many I had ‘thought outside of the box’ for. I was surprised at the way I had composed some of the photographs that I can link to tough days or days out of the studio.
Sometimes life can take you by surprise…
Here is my August 2014 in a Photo-a-Day…
Day 1 – Landscape – Dreaming of overlooking the landscape of one of my fabric collages!
Day 2 – Lunch – We were lucky to have a jacket potato picnic in the park as five minutes later was an almighty hail and thunder storm!
Day 3 – “S” is for… – Sewing!
Day 4 – In the Middle – I love the ampersand in the middle of our bookcase
Day 5 – Pile – A pile of buttons in every colour
Day 6 – Grateful For – Five minutes out to paint my nails for the first time in forever while my video uploads to WordPress
Day 7 – Spot – Spot the spotty toadstool in the grass!
Day 8 – Pet Peeve – The OCD fairy in me gets a little stressed when things don’t all face the same way :/
Day 9 – Mix – We use our little egg whisk to mix up ingredients when we bake
Day 10 – Art – I stuck old sewing pattern covers onto a cork board to make wall art above my sewing table 🙂
Day 11 – Mirror – My fiancé and I playing around in the mirror! It took about twenty takes which started off with nice smiles and ended up with us pretending we were trapped behind the bannister! Haha! We laughed a lot!
Day 12 – Gather – Gathering my thoughts together for what’s probably my most honest and personal blog post yet…it’s a little scary.
Day 13 – Inside – Our new blind is finally up inside our kitchen window and is super sunshiney happy yellow 🙂
Day 14 – Give – I give the award for the tackiest postcard to my sister! Haha! It’s a good one!
Day 15 – Clouds – Fluffy cotton wool clouds and a new film to watch 🙂
Day 16 – Clean – The house is clean so sitting down with a cuppa
Day 17 – Dinner – Sausage and chip picnic in the park 🙂
Day 18 – Arrow – The arrow in the Mockingjay pin
Day 19 – To-Do – Todays to do list, I wonder if I will get to the cup of tea part?
Day 20 – Before Bedtime – We brush our teeth!
Day 21 – Decorate – I love making my own wall art to decorate my house. The tutorial for this Flamingo tote bag wall art is here [INSERT LINK]
Day 22 – Words – The words inside these pages take you on some of the best adventures!
Day 23 – Style – Spent part of the afternoon perusing the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon because that’s our style! Hehe!
Day 24 – Fragrant – This beautiful mini rose my gorgeous fiancé bought me 🙂
Day 25 – Mail – There is something about airmail envelopes! I love them!
Day 26 – Breakfast – Branflakes with a handful of muesli scattered across the top and a coffee…of course!
Day 27 – Dull – Never a dull day in our new house! Especially now the flooring is all covered got the craft studio ceiling work. On the up side bit sounds like you’re walking on bubble wrap 🙂
Day 28 – Travel – We went on an adventure and travelled to Royal Leamington Spa today for mooch around the shops 🙂
Day 29 – Dessert – Yes! The sign says it all! Hehe!
Day 30 – Nearby – My fiancé is nearby me on the sofa! After a busy three days out of the house for building work we are having a pyjama day watching films on Netflix and its bliss.
Day 31 – 10am – At about 10am we ventured into the studio to see if the plaster had dried yet.
I have some real favourites this month. I love the photo of The Bell Tower on ‘Day 2’. It is in Evesham where I live and it’s my favourite. You can see it again here in my ‘A Tourist in My Hometown’ post and I have a few more of these posts lined up soon which I am super excited to share with you. I love that this photo reminds me of summer lunches and jacket potato picnics in the park.
I love ‘Day 6’ where I was grateful for five minutes out to paint my nails. Something so simple but this photo reminds me to take time out for the little things and to slow down.
I love ‘Day 7’ with the brightly coloured toadstool in our newly grown grass.
‘Day 11’ makes me laugh every time I look at it – maybe I should get it framed!? Whereas ‘Day 12’ makes me feel a little sad because I know how hard it felt to be so honest about how I was feeling for my ‘The Start of Something New’ post.
I love that these photographs are more than just fulfilled photograph prompts to me. I love that they are documenting my life. I love that they are documenting the highs and the lows and everything in between. I just know that my future self will thank me for doing this.
I am looking forward to exploring my way through the September prompts. I love them already. They are all made up from suggestions from people who play along with the Photo-a-Day challenges and feel really fresh.
Let’s talk about them all! Which is your favourite? Do you play along with a photo challenge? I would love to see your links in the comments to explore with a cuppa!
