Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am back from my short Spring Break with my Photo-a-Day – May 2016 round-up! Hooray! It didn’t completely go to plan and I didn’t completely unplug unfortunately (darn social media obsessions!) I think it would have been a lot easier to unplug if I hadn’t of been taking part in the Photo-a-Day challenge on Instagram and then I could have cut all ties for a while and really got my head down. Definitely something to work on in the future.
I really am enjoying the challenge though and even more so, I am enjoying the photographs I am creating and the wonderful interactions that are happening over on Instagram. If you have no idea what I am talking about then you can learn all about the Photo-a-Day Challenge here.
I love the creative community over there, it’s all warm and fuzzy like a big creative hug 🙂
I definitely think Instagram is my favourite of the social media platforms. It is beautifully visual and feels a lot smaller than Facebook and Twitter. It kind of feels like people can actually reach you and you can reach out to them over there a lot more than the huge sea of ever changing and forever scrolling larger platforms. Sometimes I feel like Twitter is a bit ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ sometimes – It scares me!
Anyhoo, that was a bit of a weird tangent that I didn’t expect to travel down! Haha! On my mini hiatus I did however; manage to get my head into gear to really figure out what I want for my little creative biz and where I want Eliston Button to head in the future.
There are a lot of ideas in my head and I am taking time to plough through and sift out the goodies!
More on that in a future blog post I think.
So, this month for the Photo-a-Day challenge was an odd one for me. I think the lack of blogging and (less) dipping in and out of other online bits and bobs made me feel a little bit more creative and I found I thought a bit more about each shot. I think maybe I stopped resisting and getting hung up by the tougher prompts for a while and let it flow a bit more without as much over-thinking. Over thinking is the worst for my creativity!
I still love the process of being able to document my day to day but also mix in some fun, colour and creativity.
I think that’s what made it all a bit fresher for me this time around. You can see all of my Photo-a-Day Challenge round-ups here.
This month I loved playing around with buttons again. Day 1 allowed me to share my own Handmade Clay Buttons, I colour matched that gorgeous Peter Pan book in Day 3, Made a whole button out of buttons in Day 5 and shared my favourite colour in my favourite crafty item in Day 19, not forgetting all of the gorgeous hand-picked buttons that centre each of my embroidered felt flower brooches in Day 21 – I love, love, loved seeing them all together! Wowee!
I love all of the photos this month.
I love the sea of bright, happy colours, beautiful bold splashes against crisp white backgrounds and full on eye-catching palettes.
Expect, as ever, a lot of emoji’s, a lot of explosions of colour and a huge heap of craft goodness (and the odd happy troll army that makes me smile every time!)
Without further ado…Here is my Photo-a-Day – May 2016…
Day 01 – Blue – Chunky blue handmade clay buttons, perfect for little (or big) fingers and add beautiful rounded buttony goodness to any sewing project 💙 One set left in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop! Hooray! 💙🎨
Day 2 – Routine – All routine goes out of the window on Bank Holidays! We spent the morning walking around beautiful Eckington where they had their annual village garage sale. My feet hurt a lot but it was great fun and so interesting seeing all of the different houses and all of the pretty flowers! 😍🏡
Day 3 – N is for… – Neverland. “Second star to the right and straight on ’till morning” – Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie 💙 “Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy Darling, even Captain Hook – You are my perfect story book, Neverland I love you so…” -Ruth B 💙
Day 4 – Ball – I always have a ball of wool on hand for crafting! 🎨💜 This one is one of my faves! 💜
Day 5 – Button – I almost had too many options for this prompt, but me being me, I had to make things more complicated and spent the morning making a button out of buttons didn’t I! 💙
Day 6 – Air – I saw a hot air balloon last night but it was too far away to take a photo for today’s prompt, so I made one with little fluffy button clouds! Hooray for being crafty! 🎨☁️🎈
Day 7 – This Means a Lot to Me – Getting a personalised photo postcard from my Mum and Dad at a Citroen 2cv rally in Severac Le Chateau, France this morning! What a fantastic idea! 🇫🇷💙
Day 8 – My Sunday – Cups of tea, lots of gossip, a trough of biscuits and playing hairdressers with my gorgeous sister makes for a great, lazy Sunday afternoon 😍☕️
Day 9 – A Sign – My fiancé bought me this sign for the Eliston Button Headquarters and it makes me smile every time I see it! (Especially when I’m grumpy!) 😂❤️
Day 10 – Travel – I can’t wait to move house so I can travel around on my pink Vespa, Piglet again! I miss riding around the countryside with the wind in my hair on an adventure with this little beauty! (Obviously this is the model version! 😂) 💗
Day 11 – Tiny – How cute is that tiny ‘Rachel’ mug!? Can you spot it? So adorable! I have had it since I was little in my dolls house and it’s so tiny ☕️😍🌸
Day 12 – Text – I love it when the flowers match the art 😍🎨
Day 13 – Mirror – I’m not a vain person, but you always have to check what you look like before you leave the house! I love this mosaic mirror the best! (It’s pink!) 🎀
Day 14 – Eye – The eye of a needle! Always so tricky to thread, but super fun to play around with after that! Many a dose of handmade goodness has been started with the threading of the needle 😍🎀
Day 15 – Lunch – I am pretty sure it is illegal to go to IKEA and not have the meatballs for lunch! 😂 The best!🍴
Day 16 – Behind – A sneaky peek behind-the-scenes of what’s happening in the Eliston Button Headquarters this week! Weaving up a storm with gorgeous teal textured yarn and tassels for days 😍💙
Day 17 – Liquid – Sometimes I think the painty, watery liquid left over at the end of painting can be just as beautiful as the painting itself – just look at those colours! 😍🎨🌈
Day 18 – Message – Just a few messages to hold in your heart and happy little reminders for every day 😍🌈☀️
Day 19 – My Fave Colour – Pink! (Of course!) And how better to show that than in buttons! My favourite! 💕💗🎀
Day 20 – Triangle – Lots of yummy triangles of honey and sunflower seed star bread for breakfast this morning ⭐️🍞One of my favourites! 😍
Day 21 – Flowers – Lots of pretty little doses of handmade goodness, pretty little embroidered felt petals making up pretty little flower brooches 🌺 In the Eliston Button Etsy Shop!
Day 22 – Time – Le Temps du Bonheur – The Time of Happiness. I am pretty sure my time of happiness is sat in France…with a coffee…and a croissant…and most definitely macarons! 🎀🇫🇷🕑☕️
Day 23 – Made by Me – I love making these quilted ball decorations. I love the pastel pink and slate grey. I love the neat folds of material and the symmetry. I love the silky ribboned bow. I don’t love the sore fingers and thumbs from pushing over 200 pins into 40 squares of fabric! I only make these every so often but I love them! 🎀 (P.s. This one is available to buy in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop 😉)
Day 24 – In My Bag – Oversized Sunglasses and case, Hello Kitty tissues, hair brush, hair bobbles and clip, a shopping bag that folds down into a strawberry, keys, Lego minifigure, notepad and pen, chewing gun, a pocket mirror, lip balm and travel size deodorant, headphones and gingerbread man headphone holder, Cath Kidston purse, make-up pencil case full of headache tablets, plasters, a sewing kit and girly bits and pieces. Oh and my phone but I used that to take the photo! 🎀👛
Day 25 – Blurry – Sometimes you have to blur out the background noise to be able to concentrate on what’s important 🙌🏻☀️
Day 26 – Something – Something pretty and full of handmade goodness all packaged up with a bow from the Eliston Button Etsy Shop ready to post off to a lovely customer! I love the wrapping and finishing touches almost as much as the making! 🎀🌺🎨
Day 27 – Moody – If I ever feel a bit grumpy or moody, I just need to look at these guys to make me smile again! Haha! 😂💜
Day 28 – View From Bed – I see my bedside table, Hello Kitty alarm clock (usually with a bit of a groan!) my ever increasing pile of books that I have started but am yet to finish, sleep therapy lavender pillow mist and a huge pink flower bedside lamp! 🌺📚⏰
Day 29 – On the Table – Catching up with my Project Life scrapbook and using my gorgeous Katie Daisy planner to map out exciting new ideas for Eliston Button 🌺 A productive Sunday if you ask me! Hooray!
Day 30 – Hair – A rainbow of brightly coloured Troll hair! ❤️💛💚💙💜💖
Day 31 – What I Saw Today – Yummy asparagus for my lunch today! My favourite! 💚 I didn’t see it for long though before it ended up in my tummy! 💚🌱
Wowee! I told you it was going to be colourful! I really need to find a way to print and keep these Photo-a-Day photos together as a memory of each month’s collection. How would you document them? Maybe a photo album? Or maybe get them printed in a photo book? What do you think?
I am a little way into my June Photo-a-Day and am a little worried that it will have to bow to the wonder and colour of this one! Haha! I don’t think I can beat it! I am struggling a bit already so who know how June will turn out. I will be sure to let you know!
If you would like to join in or even just follow along with my adventure, I would love for you to check out my Instagram. I would love to see all of your links in the comments too so I can follow back! Hooray!
