Hello my lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe how fast this last month has gone and here we are at my September Photo-a-Day round-up! If you are a newbie Buttoneer, grab a cup of tea and catch up with my previous Photo-a-Day blog posts.
September’s Photo-a-Day prompts were slightly different as they were all suggested by people who play along with the monthly prompts. I found that this made them a bit more challenging and fun. I think this is because they were generally totally different to previous prompts rather than a variation. I went into the months photos with an open mind and found I enjoyed the prompts a lot more than when I get stressed about keeping up.
Most of my September photographs reflected where I was located at that time. Whether it was in the studio at the start of the month, to watching the Tour of Britain cycle race whizz through my hometown, to the first little signs of autumn, to my break away to The Great British Seaside and rounding off the month back at home. I feel like the month came around full circle!
I know I say it every month but, I am love that each month I can document my life and the world around me through a simple photo prompt each day.
Something that takes a few minutes each day leaves me with a month of memories at the end…
Here is my September 2014 in a Photo-a-Day…
Day 1 – In My Cup – Coffee. Always Coffee first thing in the morning!
Day 2 – Stripes – Stripes of gorgeous colour in Paperchase
Day 3 – Button – How could I not use my most important button!? Eliston Button – My little creative biz.
Day 4 – D.I.Y – My weapons of mass creation for most crafty D.I.Y’s!
Day 5 – Upside Down – Just hanging around!
Day 6 – I Need – To keep plodding through with unpacking the studio again and keep telling myself that it will be all worth it in the end. There has to be a silver lining somewhere, I just haven’t found it yet.
Day 7 – Father – I love this photo of me and my dad! It totally sums us both up as being on the same wavelength when it comes to having a good laugh!
Day 8 – Broken – My pencil crayon (although I love that I can use my giant pencil shaped electronic sharpener now!)
Day 9 – Orange – This prompt made me remember my ‘Oranges and Lemons’ project at college and how much I enjoy sketching.
Day 10 – Repetition – Watching the cyclists shoot through my little hometown on the Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest professional cycle race!
Day 11 – How I Feel Today – Tired! Can I just hibernate under the duvet and let the fairies do my work?
Day 12 – Spring/Fall – Autumn is on its way!
Day 13 – Out of Place – I think little ‘O’ needs to behave!
Day 14 – Healthy – Shiny red apples 🙂
Day 15 – Remember – I note everything down in my planner so that I remember.
Day 16 – I Don’t Like – Weeds in my garden, but this one’s a cutie!
Day 17 – Key – I love our pink key doorstop that my family brought back from France!
Day 18 – Person – I made this wire person and his little wire friend in sixth form art many moons ago and I still love them!
Day 19 – Even – Even though I have been a hundred times I still love the magic of the seaside at Weston-Super-Mare, especially when this was our hotel room view 🙂
Day 20 – Beginning – Starting the day off with a cooked breakfast! Well…we were at the seaside 😉
Day 21 – Fave Word – Craft of course! Found this great sign, wish I could have brought it home for the studio!
Day 22 – Crisp – The walk along the beach before breakfast was a little crisp but it soon warmed up and was a beautiful day 🙂
Day 23 – Triangle – Lots of triangles in and around the ampersand
Day 24 – Loud – When I have to set my alarm (which thankfully isn’t very often!) it is far too loud and normally far too early!
Day 25 – Angle – You see things from a different perspective if you just change the angle of the shot.
Day 26 – Best – Even on a cloudy day, this view is still one of the best 🙂
Day 27 – Celebration – I bought this badge for my fiancé to wear on his birthday celebrations in June and it’s still not put way in the memories box!
Day 28 – Game – Anyone for a game of cards? I love my Beatrix Potter cards, they are so pretty.
Day 29 – Wish – I wish I hadn’t of tried to pour my little white buttons into their glass decanter without a funnel!
Day 30 – Where I’m From – A little market town called Evesham that is full of beautiful historic buildings like the Bell Tower (my fave!) and sits in a meander of the River Avon…and also provides the tomatoes for Walkers crisps!
I have found, by looking back over my photos each month, that I learn so much about myself. I love that the first handful of photographs are so ‘Me’. I love Cup of coffee that always starts my day, the rainbow colours of the paper in Paperchase that I stood and swooned over for ages! I love the collection of craft tools in Day 4 and that I remember the fun of how fun it was to realise how many pink ones I had!
I love that the photo of my hand-drawn oranges from college hit the most likes I have had so far on any photo which quietly built my confidence in my art a little more. I love that I was able to capture the Tour of Britain as ‘Repetition’ for Day 10 and how I will always remember standing with my mom, waiting for them to arrive with so much excitement!
I also love that my ‘normally behind-the-camera for these prompts’ face featured in not only one but three of this month photos and how I was able to see the first signs of autumn appear without missing them because of the day to day hustle and bustle.
This month will always be one of my favourites because of the memories but more so because I feel like I am slowly improving my photography.
I am thinking a lot more about composition, placement and colour. I think more about shapes in the frame and how I can make my photos more visually appealing which will rub off on my blog photos too. It is like a daily practice that I wouldn’t ordinarily have time to do.
I have already started the October Photo-a-Day prompts. I am super excited about this month as it is the alphabet and a few numbers at the end. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the openness of the prompts but had a flash of inspiration to make it more of a challenge and create the A-Z of Crafts according to Eliston Button!
