Hello there lovely Buttoneers! How are we already mid-way through April!? I swear I am always mentally a month behind! Although it would probably feel more like springtime if it was a bit sunnier and a little less cloudy and gloomy. What is the weather like with you? Today, I have my Photo-a-Day – March 2016 round up to share with you and I am surprised I got this far this month.
I found the Photo-a-Day Prompts really great at the start of the month but later on in the second half of the month I really struggled. I don’t know whether it was because my head wasn’t in the game or whether the prompts were just a bit too open to interpretation, but I just didn’t feel it. Not one to have an incomplete month, especially with this here bloggity-log and you lovely Buttoneers to hold me accountable, I pushed through.
All in all I am pretty darn proud of my month of photographs so I am super glad I persevered! Hooray for pushing myself out from under of my comfort blanket…or something like that!
It was super snugly under there though 🙂
Some of my photographs surprised me…Like Day 1 – Those green button beauties got me my highest number of likes ever on Instagram! Wowee! Day 9 made me realise that I should branch-out and photograph the everyday things more often. Day 11 made me fall in love with minimalism when usually I opt for quite the opposite. Day 12 actually made me dig out art supplies that I had long forgotten about from my art college days whereas Day 14 allowed me to sit and play for a while (way longer than I care to admit!)
I love, love, loved playing with stop motion photography for Day 20 (In fact my fiancé took this a huge step further and made a few stop motion videos with Lego minifigures that are super amazing! Although I’m probably bias, I think you should definitely check them out here) Day 28 reminded me that I can find happiness in the smallest of places right here under my nose. And most importantly, a lot of the time, I learnt that ‘done’ really is sometimes better than ‘perfect’ and chances are, no one else will even notice the imperfections, the slightly-off not quite straight lines, the wonky right-angles, the darker shadows or even the dust… 😉
I also feel like I am on top of my Emoji game with my Photo-a-Day Instagram posts…Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
So without further ado…Here is my Photo-a-Day – March 2016…
Day 1 – Green – Green has never been my favourite colour at all, but when I laid it all out in buttony goodness, I couldn’t argue that it looked pretty darn gorgeous! 💚💚💚
Day 2 – Good – It was really good timing to receive this month’s issue of Mollie Makes magazine through the post as I have trapped a nerve in my back and can’t move very much! I think it’s the universes way of telling me to take a break and slow down a bit, now I have no choice! The good thing to come out of it I suppose! 🎀🐣☕️📖
Day 3 – Art – Art is always in my heart…and in my studio! Books and buttons and beads oh my! 📖🎨🎀
Day 4 – The Weather – Cloudy with a chance of meatballs! 😂 Finally a bit of blue sky after being gloomy and wet, but clouds and clouds for days – they’re so fluffy! As Eeyore always says “It’ll probably be raining later” ⛅️🌦🌧
Day 5 – Square – I have so many different squares in the Eliston Button Headquarters filled with knick-knacks, buttons, beads and the like. It was hard to choose just one but I haven’t shared Mr. Pigs square before! He looks after the sequins and Lego Harry Potter! What a fabulous job! 🐷🎨⚡️
Day 6 – Neutrals – This was a hard prompt for me as I am all for brave brights and pretty pastels rather than neutral colours! Although I do love the diagonal lines and always love a chance to play with tones and shades of colours so I am happy! 😍🎨✏️
Day 7 – Hello – I made this ‘Hello’ drawing pin lettering to make our notice board in the kitchen a little bit more fun years ago and it still makes me smile every time I see it! It makes remembering important things like dentist appointments (or how long to microwave popcorn for) easy to spot too! 🎀😍
Day 8 – Making – I am always making! I am a maker! Most days I am making something, even if it’s just a mess! I love making things using washi tape at the moment and I finally filled up my We R Memory Keepers washi tape dispenser, it was so hard to choose which ones! 🎀🎨
Day 9 – Everyday – Every morning after my shower I sit at my dressing table to tame my wet hair and moisturise before anything else 🎀💁🏻💄
Day 10 – Collection – I collect a lot of things, and I mean A LOT! But over the years I seem to have inadvertently started collecting giant ceramic pencils! I didn’t realise how many I had until we unpacked the Eliston Button Headquarters when we moved! I love their bright, happy colours! 😍🎨✏️
Day 11 – Clouds – Today was a good day for this prompt! It is so foggy, even almost at midday, that I can barely see anything from my windows! So much cloud! Thankfully I am all cosy warm in the Eliston Button Headquarters…I also may or may not still be in my pyjamas…😏☁️🌫
Day 12 – Abstract – Oil pastel play this morning to create an abstract sea and sunset! 🌅☀️🌊
Day 13 – ‘This Is Funny’ – “There is an old lady who lives in my soul, she loves to knit and drink tea” – This is funny because it is sooooo true! Haha! This was the first illustrated and hand-lettered print I designed and it’s still one of my faves! (And still available in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop) 😉🎨✏️
Day 14 – People – Lego people are the best kind of people! The world could learn a lot from Lego people, they all play nicely together no matter their gender, their race or their job. We need more people like that in the world 😊👫👬👭🌍
Day 15 – Gift – Gift Wrapping every single dose of handmade goodness I sell in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop is almost as much fun as making the products themselves! AND, they are all ready to gift to someone or to yourself! Hooray! 🎀💗
Day 16 – Fruit – While I like most fruits, I love to pick at black grapes whilst sat at my desk. Not only are they super healthy compared to picking at biscuits or chocolate, but these ones are super sweet too to kerb the sweet cravings! Obviously I have to eat them from my favourite flamingo glass too! 😉🍇
Day 17 – Throw It – This was a hard prompt! I had to dig into the archives for this one but it makes me laugh every time I see it! We didn’t get snow this year to recreate the snowball fight so I am super glad we captured this in our old garden! ❄️🌨☃
Day 18 – Big + Small – Me and my Mum now I am big and when I was small. This prompt was great timing for my mum’s birthday for a lovely round-up! Happy Birthday Mum! 🎉😍
Day 19 – Cooking – Cooking is so much more fun with these guys around! 🍳🐷
Day 20 – Movement – Naughty little Lego pizza delivery guy tried to wheelie on his delivery! Now look what’s happened! 😂🍕
Day 21 – This is New – Getting up-to-date with my Project Life scrapbook! I started off badly before it even began because of my website re-design, so getting caught up is definitely something new to me! My first year and I am loving it so much so far – I just hope I can keep up! 🎀😍
Day 22 – Vegetable – Mr Broccoli Head is the best vegetable because he is super cuddly and has the best hair! 😂💚
Day 23 – A Favourite – One of my favourite crafts to play around with is weaving. I really must make some more woven wall hangings as they are so pretty and super relaxing to make! (This one is the last woven wall hanging in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop! 😉) 💙
Day 24 – Hands – The hands of time👋🏻🕰🐼
Day 25 – Toy – My fiancé and I love collecting Funko Pop Vinyl! figures – I love the start of my Beauty and the Beast collection with Belle, Mrs Potts and Chip! They fit right in with my French themed corner of the studio! Cogsworth and Lumière are next! 🇫🇷
Day 26 – Minimal – Sometimes it is easy to forget that there is beauty in simplicity 🎀
Day 27 – Flying – The TARDIS is flyers no it’s way off to Button Moon! Can I go with them!? What a grand adventure that would be! 🚀🌙
Day 28 – Happiness – Happiness is…bright, happy, sunshine colours brightening up grey and gloomy days. I love how our kitchen blind adds fake sunshine so we can hide away and pretend the storm isn’t there! ☀️💛
Day 29 – Night Lights – My Panda bear light gives off a warm-hug glow for a soft light to relax by 🐼💡
Day 30 – Buddies – There is no better friendship than that of a boy and his owl ⚡️
Day 31 – Half – Half of a pretty pink bow 🎀 Ploughing through the mammoth task of sorting through my ribbon boxes today, how did I get so many? How did they all get so tangled? It’s like they had a party in there! 😂
Wowee! There you go. Even though I felt like I struggled towards the end, I am still super excited to see what April will bring and really ended up loving the harder prompt photos just as much as the easier ones. Lesson learnt – Just push through, it will be okay in the end.
I love that I am using Instagram every day now. I love using my creative imagination to figure out my interpretation of the prompts just as much as I enjoy seeing how everyone else has interpreted them – its super fun to meet new people and follow along on their creative journeys too! If you don’t follow me on Instagram already then pop over and have a look – I also post behind-the-scenes snippets, day-to-day goings on and you can join in on the adventure!
