Hello there lovely Buttoneers! It’s full on November now and I am still in total denial about how close to Christmas we are! I am normally ahead of my game with Christmas organisation but this year has been a bit hectic so I feel a little off kilter. I have no idea what I am going to buy anyone – Is anyone super organised this year? Please just lie to me if you are! Haha!
A few months ago I decided to take a break from the Photo-a-Day challenge after my ‘Photo-a-Day – July 1016 – Eliston Button A-Z of Craft‘ month – which I love, love, loved but it really took it out of me time wise not to mention creatively. I talk more about it all in my ‘Around Here…August 2016‘ blog post.
It is so hard to keep up with laying out creative photograph square flatlays rather than just photographing the everyday around me.
So what drew me back into the challenge I hear you say? Colour. If it is not your first time here in this little creative corner of the blogosphere, then you may have noticed that I am a bit in love with colour. I still follow along with the Photo-a-Day challenge as my fiancé takes part with his super fun big-kid approach to the prompts (If you love Lego and Funko Pop Vinyl figures you must check him out on his Instagram) so I am always semi-aware of the daily prompts and the new list when it is released. Normally, I decide it is too much to take on along with my Create 30 blog challenge and try to check in on Instagram over the week with some behind-the-scenes studio snaps or snippets of that days adventure – these become my ‘Around Here’ posts where I share a round-up of the month from my Instagram account. That is basically my process. I went off on a bit of a waffle tangent didn’t I!
In a nutshell, I generally put the feelers out, have a browse of the month ahead and make a decision based on how stressed out or overwhelmed I would be if I took on extra work/challenges etc.
As I spied October’s list, I was immediately taken by the long list of colours that covered the whole first half of the month and I was on board! Hooray! I seriously enjoyed myself, I found it equally creative and fun as I did a bit overwhelming once I had got started and I think that’s normally a good sign for me and the projects I take on.
I loved finding bits and pieces around the Eliston Button Headquarters or my home that were of the colour for that day and playing around with then to find an aesthetically pleasing flatlay image for that day.
I found it rejuvenated my creative juices, made me think outside of that well-known metaphorical box and really just have fun with my creativity and imagination, without the pressure of it having to be over thought out and heavily planned and organised for the Eliston Button Etsy Shop!
I have to admit, by the end of the colour prompts about half way through the month when the normal prompts resumed, I was pretty glad to ‘have a break’ from laying out colour palettes and quite grateful to be able to snap things around me or interesting bits and bobs throughout my day.
SIDE NOTE: I tried to add something handmade into each of the ‘colour theme’ photos – Can you spot them!? I will add a link to each one where possible so you can check them out properly!
