Tutorial Tuesday – A Creative Christmas Card *Video* Tutorial

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! You know I love a good craft tutorial and you know that I LOVE Christmas…Well today I am smushing the two wonderful and festive doses of magic together into a Creative Christmas Card Tutorial! Hooray! Now you may have noticed that I have titled this blog post with the word *video* and might be surprised at the new bloggity-blog format…well, recently I was asked to make a video for a possible future crafty adventure and I thought I would create one that I could also share with you lovelies too.

Turns out you can do a lot of things when you put your mind to it, add a smidge of determination and a dollop of blind faith and sometimes…just sometimes, it’s magic.

Now, if you know me in real life or have been following this little corner of the internet for a long time, you may know that shoving my face in front of a camera and chatting away is absolutely not second nature to me. In fact, shoving my face in front of a camera and then sharing it with the world (well, you lovely lot!) is soooooo far out of my comfort zone that I can barely reach it with my crafty little fingers. But, I grabbed the bull by the horns, threw caution to the wind, hoped for the best and (after about a thousand takes) didn’t entirely hate how it turned out. In fact, in the end, I really enjoyed it, it felt liberating and I was ever so jolly proud of myself for even thinking I could do it. Sat in front of a video camera. Trying not to cringe at the sound of your own voice on the playback – What’s with that by the way!? Why do we all sound so different to how we sound in our heads!?

Rather than this video to be hidden away into the deepest corners of my hard drive, never to be seen again, I thought I’d document that I was once brave enough to jump of the creative cliff and figured out how to fly (ish) on the way down…

As it is my first video I can assure you it’s not all polished to perfection and all singing, all dancing with a cherry on top fabulous, but I can promise my very best effort and a few laughs at the end. I put a lot of enthusiasm into this and that’s what counts right!? So without further ado…Here is my Tutorial Tuesday – A Creative Christmas Card Video Tutorial…

P.S. There are bloopers 😉

Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Brooches!

Eliston Button Etsy Shop Banner - Eliston Button Etsy Shop Refresh at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe it is December tomorrow – Where has this year gone!? I blooming love this time of year because of sooooo many things but Etsy shop wise – It’s all about the sprouts! Who knew that this little idea in my creative imagination would turn out to be my best seller at this time of year!? I even sold a garland in March – now that is what I call organised! I have been rushed off my crafty little feet getting sprouts made and out the door this year – I have limited stock at the moment so if you were planning on decking the halls with fluffy sprouts this year keep this in mind.  Lots of pom pom making in my future I think!

Last year the Pom Pom Sprouts made their debut as part of my Create 30 Blog challenge as a Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Garland and then later by request, as individual Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Decorations. That then led to selling them as a Pack of Four – One of each of the four different party hat combinations.

All year I have thought up new ideas for these little sprouty fluffles but most ideas got lost in a sea of other makes and busy schedules and they all got put to one side. A few months ago, during a stock take of handmade treasures, I came across the Christmas sprouts but with my headaches and migraines (and the short hospital stay) this autumn, they all got a bit delayed until recently and the ideas bloomed once more. Hooray!

I have been squirrelling away behind the scenes like a Christmas elf tweaking away, measuring little pom pom sprouts for glittery party hats and filling them with Christmas magic to get them out on time for the festive season!

So, without further ado…Here are my new Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Brooches…I hope you love them as much Rudolph loves Carrots! (That’s a lot!)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays Hand Lettering and Rose Floral Christmas Wreath with Button Holly and Berries - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe we are at the last blog post of the year! WE MADE IT!! Hooray! If you read my For the Love of…Winter blog post last week, you will know how much I love this time of year…but most of all I love Christmas! I love the magic of it all. I love the gathering of my people all together for that one day, all safe and in one place and together.

As Christmases pass and Christmases change, as people come and people go – the one constant is that we come together no matter what and just be together. We are unashamedly ourselves. We are children again; no matter how old you are when those presents land in your lap.

We are calm and frantic and excited all at the same time. We are thoughtful and we remember. We hold each other close and we hold on tight.

As Christmases pass and Christmases change, one thing that never changes is how thankful I am for those around me and how much warmth and love is spread. We make the most of what we have and never for one minute take it for granted. They are my people and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

More than anything this year though, I will be super glad of a little break. To be around family and friends. To just stop for a while and soak it all in.

I will be super glad to put on the brakes, sit in front of Christmas telly, eat all of the festive food and worry about it all next year! I will be super glad to breathe a little, relax and go on adventures! To take some time out to revive the creative juices ready for next year. To be ready, steady, go-get-em-teddy to attempt to complete my Create 30 blog challenge before June! Ahhh! One step at a time…

I always like to sit down at this time of year and reflect over the year just gone. Buuuut…This year has been pretty crazy pants right!? If not personally for each of you, then globally. This little corner of the blogosphere will never be a political place. It will never become a place for war or hate, but I think we can all agree that 2016 can meet up with my personal 2015 and go to hell. I hope that 2017 is full of hope and joy and peace. I hope that people come together and support and love harder than ever before. I am hopeful for 2017 and I feel I haven’t said that in a really long time! As some of you know, we had one hell of a year last year and this year took a lot of patience, of waiting for things to happen and holding on to the hope that things would get better. It was the year of repair. The year of getting back on the horses and learning to ride them again. The year of building ourselves back up and trying again, and again all the while never letting it become who we are because, we are more than what happened to us

For the Love of…Winter

For the Love of Winter...Snow Trees in the Park - For the Love of...Winter at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! As we are fully into winter now and Christmas is coming up and everything is feeling so wonderfully festive, I thought it was about time I carried on the new tradition of rounding up some of my seasonal favourites. Did you catch my For the Love of…Autumn post? Much like that one, I am going to be rounding up my favourite things from my blog, my Etsy shop and share with you some winter picks from around the world wide web.

I love Winter. I love the crisp, clean air rosy-ing my cheeks whilst the winter sun warms my face. I love the icy, glittering cobwebs (the only acceptable type of cobweb if you ask me – where the spiders are long gone!) I love candle-lit, cosy early mornings in the studio with the whole day ahead. I love thick fluffy socks and layers of warmth and soft knitted jumpers and big winter coats.

I love mysterious foggy mornings where the sun melts across the horizon in a blurry haze and likewise, the deep orange-pink of the early sunset that steals all of the light for the day’s final hurrah!

I love cosying up under a duvet or blankets to hunker down for the night in front of the t.v with a hot mug of tea. I adore the magic of seeing your breath in the air and the giddy excitement from the promise of snow (although it never really happens here anymore) I love homemade apple crumble and chunky soup for dayyyysss. I love baking gingerbread and letting the scent fill up our home. I love Christmas and magic and festivities en-masse. I love family and gathering and mum’s kilted sausages. I love glittering pavements that look just like treasure. I love Winter.

One of my all-time favourite Winter blog posts has to be last years ‘A Festive Adventure‘. I really captured the dark nights and fairy lights feel of the festive adventures I went on just before Christmas and the photographs instantly take me back there…

“I love the smell of mulled wine that lingers in the cold crisp air…the scent of chestnuts roasting (on an open fire!?) The bright twinkly lights that give a sense of magic just around the corner…the stalls of handmade goodness, mince pies, gifts and festive foods….the happiness that soaks into your soul as you wander around without a care in the world…Christmas perfection!”

Another favourite of mine and a firm Button Colour Adventure favourite is my Button Colour Adventure – Part 3 – Christmas 2014 Edition – I loved making this inspiring colour palette post. The colours of Christmas are gorgeous – from the traditional deep reds, crisp whites and gorgeous greens to the more modern pretty pinks, glamorous greys and beautiful blacks…

“It will be interesting to see if/how they change over the years too, to possibly see tends and waves in styles and designs, to see whether or not I…indeed resist the temptation of buying one of those adorable Christmas gnomes! We shall see, but for now, be swept away with me on a trail of colour, glitter and Christmas imagination…”Red, White and Greys - Christmas Colour Palette Part of a Button Colour Adventure by Eliston Button - For the Love of…Winter at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

If you caught my blog post last week you will have seen my Tutorial Tuesday – Fabric Scrap Christmas Wreath

“I really love this Christmas craft as it is a great excuse to use up all of those space-filling scraps of fabric or fat quarters (and a really great excuse to go and buy new ones to replace them eh!?)”
