Hello lovely Buttoneers! We are moving house very, very soon and it’s both super exciting and super stressful! Before I pack up my laptop and the final bits and pieces of the Eliston Button Headquarters get smushed into the last few boxes and packing taped up within an inch of their lives (I am a bit of a tape-every-corner-sealed-super-tight-nothing-will-wreck-my-stuff kinda girl) I wanted to share one more Create 30 make with you all and then I can relax, safe in the knowledge that if I don’t have my internet up and running in the new house for a while, that I will still be on track to get them all out before June! Yikes! (Major fingers crossed – about the internet and making all of the things before June) Crikey, time without internet…it doesn’t bare thinking about!

Whilst I was packing up the studio I realised that I am a massive craft supply and stationery hoarder.

I had collected so much in the time we were in this house. I had saved pretty paper bags for scrapbooking, tidied away duplicate pens, fine liners, glue sticks and stickers just in case mine ever ran out. I had hidden away notebooks and new paintbrushes and stored Christmas crafts away for the winter like a squirrel hiding nuts. I had collected together stashes of beautiful papers from craft magazines and found pockets of the studio filled with more ‘spare’ balls of yarn than I’d like to admit.

Hello…my name is Rachel and I am a massive craft supply and stationery hoarder enthusiast.

Well…Admitting to the problem is the first step…right?

So whilst trying to bat away comments from my fiancé that I should open my own craft store (I mean, come on…that means I would have to part with it all! Silly boy! What do boys know anyway!?) I had a flash of inspiration – I wasn’t a hoarder…I was an ENTHUSIAST! (That could be a thing…yes?)

I grabbed my pens and pencils (not the spare ones of course – that would ruin them, silly!) and got to sketching!

I wanted to create fun and colourful ideas for new prints for the new future Eliston Button Headquarters, which of course in turn became a super fun Create 30 make! Hooray!

So without further ado…Here is Create 30 – No. 18 & 19 – Craft Supply and Stationery Enthusiast Prints…

Create 30 - No. 18& 19 - Craft Supply and Stationery Enthusiast Prints by Eliston Button - Create 30 - No. 18 & 19 - Stationery and Craft Supply Enthusiast Prints at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Pens, pencils, buttons and beads…Sewing machines, cotton spools, needles and yarn…Glue guns and glue sticks and scissors galore! You’re not a craft supply hoarder – No way! You are simply a Craft Supply Enthusiast! Hooray!

Well, join the club – I’m the president! I understand that you absolutely *need* all ten pairs of those scissors and that, yes indeed you really *must* collect all of the colours and shades of the rainbow in marker pens, cotton reels and yarn – I mean, come on!

What sort of animal leaves the craft store with only three jars of buttons and only six tubes of paint?

A Craft Supply Enthusiast print is a must-have for any craft lover or designer maker for their creative space, craft room or even their living room (which is also probably great storage for some of those stray balls of wool and a few spare buttons!) It is sure to be a funny talking point for anyone who truly knows what you are like when it comes to resisting those craft store bargains!

Perfect for any maker or crafter, knitter or sewer, painter or illustrator, artist or designer or just wonderfully creative people everywhere.

Eliston Button Headquarters – Part Two

Eliston Button Headquarters - Part Two Title Banner - Eliston Button Headquarters – Part Two at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am so excited to share with you Part Two of the Eliston Button Headquarters Tour! Hooray! I am so, so thrilled with the wonderful response from you lovelies about my last studio update post – Eliston Button Headquarters – Part One. I had such lovely comments over on Instagram and am pretty sure I reached a record amount of likes in one day (for my little profile over there!)  I was so grateful and happy that you loved to see this little peek behind-the-scenes.

Sometimes, as a blogger, it is hard to know if posts are liked or what sort of things you all like to see on here unless you tell me because we are not face-to-face – and you shouted loud and clear that you loved seeing behind the scenes where I make the crafty goodness, so thank you!

I always love to hear what you think of my makes or whether you can relate to my little adventures. I love to hear your thoughts or opinions or suggestions so please feel free to chat to me in the comments here or over on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter! I won’t bite, but I do ask that you bring cake! Virtual cake doesn’t have calories right!?

Anyhoo, I am back again to share the other half of the Eliston Button Headquarters. If you read Part One you will see that I covered the right hand side of the studio, which mainly houses shelves (and shelves…and shelves…) of craft supplies that I use (with a dash of creative magic of course!) such as yarn, fabric, inspiring art and craft books, memory keeping, scrapbooks and a hoard *cough cough* collection of buttons and beads and sequins galore…along with a TARDIS or two, a couple of pink Vespa scooters that match the one I actually drive from time to time and a growing collection of ampersands…

Today, as promised, I am sharing the other half of the Eliston Button Headquarters (to the left of the door as you walk in – for your crafty imaginations!) The first thing you see as you walk in is the window, my laptop and the desk areas. Originally I planned to have a sewing area but the desk fitted into the room a lot better together with the others and gave me good distance between my messy paints and scrapbooking away from my laptop and paperwork – trust me that this reason is there through finding out the hard way more than once and a couple of laptops ago….Ooops! R.I.P pretty pink Laptop 🙁

One of my favourite walls in the studio is the one surrounding my desk. I use it as a bit of a mood board come inspiring art come place to hang some of my own favourite makes.

Most of the bits and pieces have sentimental value to me – For example, the little cross stitched sewing machine was hand stitched by my little sister as a birthday gift (she always says she isn’t creative so this was such a beautiful and thoughtful gift) and the Pink “She believed she could, so she did” quote print was a gift from my best friend when I made it a whole year in my little creative business! I even have a little Lego minifigure that looks like my fiancé stood on my windowsill!

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! How are we coming to the end of January soon!? Jeez! It has been a bit of a whirlwind and we are still waiting on a move date (soooooo frustrating!!) but I wanted to take the time to share the Eliston Button Headquarters with you before we move! I know…I know…I have promised this since we moved in about two and a half years ago but we had some problems with the house and then problems with the neighbours from hell and then we are very almost moved again – Yikes! (If you are new to Eliston Button be sure to click through the link for each story to get all caught up!)

“Why share so close to moving again?” I hear you ask! Well, firstly, In the new house we are buying I have no idea what the Eliston Button Headquarters will look like for a really long time as we are going to look into extending the house to build my studio as an extra room – or maybe even building a self-contained studio at the bottom of the garden – either way these things take time and planning permission and money so I will have a temporary work space until we get it all figured out/built/my stress levels have returned to a normal-ish level. Obviously and for anyone that knows me – this is the most stressful thing about moving for my mostly hyper-organised brain – not to mention that it is all happening half way through my Create 30 blog challenge! Eeekk!!

Secondly, I bloody love this creative little space of mine and it would be (for a serial life documenter) a crime to not document it all!

When I am in the midst of overwhelming panic and anxiety about getting my work done and meeting deadlines, or just having a space to sit and weave or paint or sew, I want to be able to look back and go “aww! Remember when I had a space all organised and not in a thousand boxes? I will get there again soon”

So this is also, in part, for me too – for my memory keeping, for posterity, for my future creative studio planning etc etc…

Thirdly, if it’s not on the blog it doesn’t exist, right!?

So, in a nutshell, I really want to document this creative space as a memory and most importantly as a reminder that I had/have the means to be the most creative person I can be and that I will have that again once we get it all figured out. I also wanted to share my space with you lovelies, as promised, so that you can see where the creative goodness happens! I personally, always love to see makers arty/crafty spaces and find them really inspiring – I even have Pinterest boards dedicated to my Dream Studio, the different phases of the Eliston Button Headquarters (where it is soooo crazy pants to look back at my original work space in our old rented house!) and my fave – Danger: Artist at Work!

Maybe it’s just me but I find seeing designer’s and maker’s and artist’s studios super inspiring and I love seeing the places and spaces where the creative magic happens.

There is so much I wanted to share about my studio but we would be here all day if I photographed it all! It has taken sooo long to be able to photograph it all in the right light at this time of year too (damn you Northern Hemisphere!) I have split the whole carnival of creativity into two parts (part two coming soon!) which coincidentally, also pretty much splits the studio into two halves, right down the middle (for your lovely creative imaginations!)

Here is the Eliston Button Headquarters – Part One…

Eliston Button Headquarters Creative Studio - IKEA Bookcase Fabric, Book and Button Storage, TARDIS and Pink Vespa - Eliston Button Headquarters – Part one at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

One of my favourite areas of the Eliston Button Headquarters is my wall of bookcases! I love how they store a huge portion of my craft supplies, on show for me to feel inspired and see exactly what I have to start creating something new if I get frustrated with something I am already working on.

I find that having it all in front of me, lets me visualise projects ahead of time or snatch snippets of inspiration on how to finish a work-in-progress or start a new make.

I love to keep the studio fun. A boring or plain space doesn’t match with my personality so would be totally the wrong fit for my creativity. I need a space to feel like home, to fuel my imagination and go back to being a kid as often as possible! I love the top of the bookcases – it is such a wasted space as I can’t reach up there, so I wanted to make them fun and house more ornamental things that I don’t use on a day-to-day basis. The TARDIS, the pink Vespa scooter and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry potions crate on my desk are my favourite items in this photo! The pink scooter matches my own real life scooter (that’s a whole other story!)

I also think I have a bit of a pretty storage box and tin obsession – I mean you can never have too much storage though can you!?

Meet the Maker Week

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am squeezing a short and sweet blog post in this week (Two in one week eh!?) because I wanted to share the wonderful Instagram challenge called Meet the Maker Week that I took part in and completed last week, especially for those of you that don’t have or don’t follow me on Instagram.

Meet the Maker Week is a really fabulous Instagram challenge by a lovely designer, maker and illustrator called Joanne Hawker. I missed the last challenge that she set back in March and I kept my eyes peeled for another chance to join in. I nearly didn’t join in this time around either though! I was worried that I would be adding another thing to my seemingly never ending list of things to do before Christmas at the same time as getting Christmas Eliston Button Etsy Shop orders out the door and keeping up with my Create 30 Blog Challenge – Phew!

Even writing it all out made me feel a bit nauseous with panic!

I really didn’t want to miss the opportunity again and didn’t know if another chance to join in would arise next year so I dove in head first, hoping I would keep up with it all and not run away scared half way through! Luckily, Joanne was lovely enough to create a mini planner for the week and gave us really great prompts and questions to answer as ideas to help us along and figure out what to say and how to fulfil each day’s category.

I started off a bit scared, but once I started chatting to other makers I really felt at home and so thrilled to be a part of such a great community of makers.

It was not only a fabulous opportunity to get myself out there a bit more and show off what I have to offer (which always feels really scary normally) but I feel like for the first time I know how to answer the question “so…what to you do then?”, I feel more confident as a maker and, like I mentioned before, more involved and welcomed in by the fantastic handmade community – I even made some gorgeous new friends too which is the icing on the cake for me!

Working on in the studio on my own all day can get a little lonely and it’s so lovely to be able to natter with like-minded folks on social media, like a little handmade board meeting…but in my pyjamas!

I wanted to share my challenge entries and answers with you lovelies too and also document them for myself to look back on in years to come, to see how much has changed or see how I would answer the prompts in 5 or even 10 years time (I hope Eliston Button is still around that far into the future!) If you are a regular Buttoneer in this little corner of the creative blogosphere then you may already know some of it, or maybe you can learn a bit more about me and my little creative business. If you are completely new to Eliston Button – you will learn a lot! *Waves Hello*

Day One| Brand – I am taking part in Meet the Maker Week by @joannehawker on Instagram, so that I can share my little creative biz story with you and all of my lovely new followers (my Buttoneers!)
I am Rachel of Eliston Button and I am a designer, maker and creative lifestyle blogger from my home studio in Worcestershire, England. I make lots of handmade goodness for the#elistonbuttonetsyshop including prints, woven wall hangings, embroidered felt brooches and accessories and home decor.
My family have always called me ‘That Crafty Kid’, from a child sneaking sweet wrappers and gift tags into my cardigan pockets for my scrapbook and sitting on my Nan’s big, round Button tin to cutting up my mums magazines with my zig zag scissors, I was a pro at cutting a sticking! Some years on after a string of uninspiring jobs (my last job being a funeral arranger!) I decided enough was enough and enrolled into Art college. Coming out the other end with three distinctions, I had gained the confidence to get myself out there and start my blog and to document my art, design, craft and adventure! Quite early on I started blog challenges of making a certain amount of items before I hit that age and before I knew it I had enough to open my Etsy Shop. Since then I have expanded my craft and explored different avenues of crafty goodness which makes up the handmade treasure trove of my shop. My heart and soul are happy if I am making and creating and adventuring! Grab a cup of tea and explore my shop at www.elistonbutton.etsy.com! 🎀 Come and say hello! 🎀

Day Two |You for Meet the Maker Week – I am Rachel Eliston the face (although not always as together looking as this photo would allow you to believe!) behind Eliston Button. I am 29 and a quirky, creative being who likes to design and make things..and take naps! I am a solo crafty kid biz owner but wouldn’t have any of it if it wasn’t for my fiancé/best friend/team mate/adventure buddy, Chris who thoroughly supports my crazy ideas, picks up the pieces when they don’t work out and is has impeccable timing with cups of tea/large slices of cake/hugs etc when disaster strikes or anxiety rears its ugly head! ☕️🍰When I am not being crafty, pottering around my craft studio and creating an art filled home I can be found… On adventures (getting lost) with my Fiancé, scooting around on my pink Vespa, exploring France, collecting buttons or arranging them into coloured jars, hoarding potential craft supplies by plundering around charity shops and bargain hunting at car boot sales, curled up with a good book, making lists (and ticking them off)…or sat dreaming about owning our own little house in France! 🇫🇷 I am a huge procrastinator, day dreamer and worrier (I genuinely don’t know how I get things done) I love a good fairy tale and try to keep a dose of magic in everything. I always have a hundred tabs open in my head but have a great imagination! I love to people watch and pretend to be Harriet the Spy or Nancy Drew and I love a good cup of coffee or a large mug of tea! 🎀 How about you? What are your likes and dislikes? It’s really hard to write about yourself but I’d love for you to say Hello! 🎀
