Hello lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe we are at the last blog post of the year! WE MADE IT!! Hooray! If you read my For the Love of…Christmas blog post earlier this week, you will know how much I love this time of year but I am soooo ready to take a break over the holidays to recharge the creative batteries and power up again for the New Year.
I am really looking forward to taking a break this year. It’s been a full on year and I’m ready to sit down, pyjamas on and sip a cup of tea in front of Christmas telly, rather than having far too many tabs open in my brain about orders and blogging and social media whilst crafting like a crazy lady to keep up with sprout orders! Phew! I’m exhausted and as usual at this time of year, I am feeling a bit burnt out so a break has come at a really great time.
I’m like a big kid at Christmas. I love to get swept up in the magic and fairy lights and fuzzy warm feelings you get when you all come together and exchange gifts and eat aaaalllll the festive food!
I can never sleep on Christmas Eve from the excited anticipation and can’t wait to throw myself headfirst into the festivities in the morning!
One of my most vivid memories of Christmas Eve as a child (but definitely old enough to know better!) was sneaking out of bed and tip-toeing to the window to peek out, desperately searching the stars for one that looked like a sleigh. I was eager to hear the sound of jingle bells on the roof and the soft thuds of footsteps on the slate roof tiles. Mum always told us that Father Christmas always gave the presents to Dad in the porch and Dad put them under the tree for him, as not to scare us with the thought of a strange man entering our house via the chimney (and in hindsight to cover their backs just in case they were caught placing them around the tree!)
Yet, I still imagined Rudolf along with Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner, and Blitzen all sat up on the roof, eating the carrots I placed outside for them on a festive plate…
I always think of this on Christmas Eve and always make sure I glance out of the window before crawling into bed…you know…just in case…
Hello lovely Buttoneers! If you have been following this here bloggity-blog for a few years or more now – Or even since the last festive season to be honest! – You will know how much I love Christmas. It is my favourite holiday of the year. I am obsessed. Recently we also had a huge chunk of snow descend upon us and I was like a child at…well…Christmas! Neighbours had put up their decorations and lit up their lights and IT SNOWED!!
I looked out of the window every time I woke up that night eagerly awaiting the frosty treasure like a child looking for Father Christmas on Christmas Eve – It was wonderful.
I loved the snow filled adventures and the crunch beneath our feet. I loved the rosy red cheeks and the hunter-gathering for supplies into the blizzardy wilderness (well, to the shops down the road!) I loved walking through Narnia when we walked through the untouched snow in the woods and slide our way home for hot mugs of tea. I even loved shovelling the piles of snow off the car and using a plastic box to dig our way out of the drive (getting soggy socks in the process) not to mention that it was super Christmasy and full of glittering magic out there!
I love the soft quiet air and the friendliness of people. You get that when it snows don’t you – People you pass in the street say hello with a comforting smile as if its just you and them left in the world, battling the elements. People chat to you when you finally make it to the shops, chatting about the weather (definitely a British thing!) or getting to work or the panic buying of bread and milk as if its the apocalypse or something. It’s funny isn’t it!?
I love the way that snow changes everything. Everything looks soft and rounded. Every thing looks calm and pretty. Everything looks like magic.
Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe it is December tomorrow – Where has this year gone!? I blooming love this time of year because of sooooo many things but Etsy shop wise – It’s all about the sprouts! Who knew that this little idea in my creative imagination would turn out to be my best seller at this time of year!? I even sold a garland in March – now that is what I call organised! I have been rushed off my crafty little feet getting sprouts made and out the door this year – I have limited stock at the moment so if you were planning on decking the halls with fluffy sprouts this year keep this in mind. Lots of pom pom making in my future I think!
Last year the Pom Pom Sprouts made their debut as part of my Create 30 Blog challenge as a Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Garland and then later by request, as individual Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Decorations. That then led to selling them as a Pack of Four – One of each of the four different party hat combinations.
All year I have thought up new ideas for these little sprouty fluffles but most ideas got lost in a sea of other makes and busy schedules and they all got put to one side. A few months ago, during a stock take of handmade treasures, I came across the Christmas sprouts but with my headaches and migraines (and the short hospital stay) this autumn, they all got a bit delayed until recently and the ideas bloomed once more. Hooray!
I have been squirrelling away behind the scenes like a Christmas elf tweaking away, measuring little pom pom sprouts for glittery party hats and filling them with Christmas magic to get them out on time for the festive season!
So, without further ado…Here are my new Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Brooches…I hope you love them as much Rudolph loves Carrots! (That’s a lot!)
Whether you love sprouts you hate them, you can’t deny that these little doses of fluffy pom pom sprout goodness are an adorable and super fun splash of festive cheer addition to your festive outfit!
These little sprout pom poms are lovingly handmade with light and dark acrylic yarn, adorable little googly wiggly eyes are added to give them their own little personalities, along with little red party hats atop their fluffy heads so that they are raring to go for any festive party or celebration you desire. They can’t wait!
Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe it is that wonderful time of year again where it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I am working out my last recommended postage dates! Ekkk! I am sure I have said it before but I’m like a child when it comes to Christmas. I love the crisp, cold air with the promise of snow (even though it’s super rare here these days!)
I love the twinkling festive lights that brighten up dark winter nights. I love hot cups of tea or hot chocolate to warm your hands whilst you scour the shops for gifts. I love the excitement, the build-up, the wrapping of presents and tying them with a bow.
I love being snuggled under a blanket watching Christmas films…A Miracle on 34th Street is my absolute favourite (new and old!) very closely followed by It’s a Wonderful Life! I blooming love it all! Can I get the decorations out of the loft yet!? Pleeeaaseeee?? Pretty please with a cherry on top!?
Also on my long list of Christmas festivities is packaging up you wonderful peoples Eliston Button Etsy Shop orders! I love the thought of my little Christmas Sprout Pom Pom Garlands hanging across your mantelpieces or Individual Sprout Decorations hanging on the tree! It’s still so strange to me that you hang my Prints and Wall Art and my Woven Wall Hangings on the walls of your homes. It’s crazy to me that you wear my Embroidered Felt Flower Brooches to brighten up an outfit or wear my Embroidered Felt Hair Accessories in your hair!
Blimey it fills my little crafty heart with joy! I love making and creating and every single purchase you make in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop allows me to carry on making and creating and writing this blog.
Without you lovelies investing in my little quirky creative biz, Eliston Button simply wouldn’t exist and the same goes for every single creative business out there.
So, try to shop handmade and independent this year as much as you can – You are not only investing in somebodies creative biz, you are investing in their hopes and dreams and lives too…
So…If you are planning to buy some (or all!) of your Christmas presents (Even if they are for yourself!) all of my handmade products are shipped out to you carefully wrapped in pretty tissue paper and ribbon tied in a bow before being lovingly placed into protective packaging to arrive with you all safe and snug! Gift wrap sorted!
To ensure that your little handmade treasures arrive on time for the festive holidays, here are my last recommended postage dates… View Post
Hello lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe we are at the last blog post of the year! WE MADE IT!! Hooray! If you read my For the Love of…Winter blog post last week, you will know how much I love this time of year…but most of all I love Christmas! I love the magic of it all. I love the gathering of my people all together for that one day, all safe and in one place and together.
As Christmases pass and Christmases change, as people come and people go – the one constant is that we come together no matter what and just be together. We are unashamedly ourselves. We are children again; no matter how old you are when those presents land in your lap.
We are calm and frantic and excited all at the same time. We are thoughtful and we remember. We hold each other close and we hold on tight.
As Christmases pass and Christmases change, one thing that never changes is how thankful I am for those around me and how much warmth and love is spread. We make the most of what we have and never for one minute take it for granted. They are my people and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
More than anything this year though, I will be super glad of a little break. To be around family and friends. To just stop for a while and soak it all in.
I will be super glad to put on the brakes, sit in front of Christmas telly, eat all of the festive food and worry about it all next year! I will be super glad to breathe a little, relax and go on adventures! To take some time out to revive the creative juices ready for next year. To be ready, steady, go-get-em-teddy to attempt to complete my Create 30 blog challenge before June! Ahhh! One step at a time…
I always like to sit down at this time of year and reflect over the year just gone. Buuuut…This year has been pretty crazy pants right!? If not personally for each of you, then globally. This little corner of the blogosphere will never be a political place. It will never become a place for war or hate, but I think we can all agree that 2016 can meet up with my personal 2015 and go to hell. I hope that 2017 is full of hope and joy and peace. I hope that people come together and support and love harder than ever before. I am hopeful for 2017 and I feel I haven’t said that in a really long time! As some of you know, we had one hell of a year last year and this year took a lot of patience, of waiting for things to happen and holding on to the hope that things would get better. It was the year of repair. The year of getting back on the horses and learning to ride them again. The year of building ourselves back up and trying again, and again all the while never letting it become who we are because, we are more than what happened to us.
