New Fabric Collage and Shooting Star Prints!

Eliston Button Etsy Shop Banner - Eliston Button Etsy Shop Refresh at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am just popping in today to share my new prints that have launched into the Eliston Button Etsy Shop with a pop and a fizz of magical handmade goodness. Hooray! Also, be sure to stick around until the end of this post for a National Button Day Sale!

I have made new fabric collage prints out of all of my fabric collages to date – At the point of writing this blog post the Beach Huts by the Sea Fabric Collage and Seaside Harbour Fabric Collage are still available to buy!) I have re-designed them to be A4 in size to really show off the texture and colours of each one.

I am soooo happy with how they turned out and kept the wonderful tactile quality that almost rivals the originals – It really looks like they are made of fabric!

Also new in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop are variations on my Shooting Star quote print – You can now purchase male and couples versions that read ‘He’ and ‘They’ alongside the original ‘She’ version. I love these new additions and am definitely going to hand the ‘They’ version in our bedroom when it is redecorated.

So without further ado…Here are my new prints…

Maybe you will choose Beach Huts by the Sea…

I always find that the more you look into this collage print, the more you see…maybe pieces of driftwood in the sand or a trail from an aeroplane jetting away to a faraway city or tropical island?

Or, maybe you prefer sipping a glass of wine gazing at the Seaside Harbour?

Here the deep inky blue water naturally waves across the fabric collage in deep denim blues, woven shades of sapphire and shimmering teal tones gently rocking the boats – How relaxing…

You might choose the Beach Huts fabric collage print with its iconic little huts of joy.

Imagine the wind in your hair, the sun on your face and the sand between your toes as you stroll along the creamy yellow beach amongst the rocks and driftwood with the seagulls calling out your name.

You come across a little row of beautifully painted, stripy beach huts and maybe you stop a while for a cup of tea or a snooze under the shade of the wooden roof…bliss…

Or maybe the Driftwood fabric collage print where the sea breeze refreshes the balmy suns warmth on your face, the oceans tide crashes against the shore in a relaxing rhythm as the sand cushions your feet with every step along the beach.

You might stop and pick up pieces of water worn driftwood and admire the weathered wood that lines a path down to the blue-green hues of the sea that meets the horizon with a shimmering dance of light across its surface. Breathe in salty air…breathe out your worries…relax…

Create 30 - An Eliston Button Blog Challenge - Create 30 – Let’s Do This! at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! I am super excited to share this next Create 30 blog challenge make with you! I have had this idea that span around in my head for years – Yes years! It got mixed up like a ball of wool in my creative imagination and each time I unravelled it, I came up with new ideas and changes and never really settled on anything concrete until recently. I don’t know whether it was the pressure and deadlines of our recent house move or whether that jumbled up ball of wool finally got untangled and I could see how I wanted it to look.

I always knew that I wanted to paint the background of this one to make it a bit more personal, much like when I illustrated my ‘Knit and Drink Tea‘ prints which expanded to ‘Crochet and Drink Tea‘ and ‘Crochet the Day Away‘ prints, or when I added images of my handmade felt flowers to the ‘Just Want to Nap‘ fun print. As the house move loomed in front of me and I still hadn’t packed up the Eliston Button Headquarters, I just knew that if I was going to get the messy paints out and experiment with colour and texture and…well, MESS! Then I was going to have to do it before we moved so that I had the right space.

I wanted to be able to lay it all out, make a mess of creativity, enjoy the process, let my trial and error attempts dry and finally sift out what looked most like the now clear imagine in my arty, crafty brain!

This one means a lot to me. The original quote for this print came to my creative imagination one night when my fiancé and I lay on our sun loungers in the garden in the middle of the night (wrapped up warm in layers of coats and blankets!) to try to spot shooting stars.

I remember the magical feeling as my eyes searched the depths of the starry night sky and felt like we were the only people in the world allowed to see its treasure.

I scribbled down a rough idea of what I wanted to capture from that magical night and filed it away in my ‘maybe quotes for future maybe print ideas’ folder – It’s a total minefield of scribbled notes and torn off pieces of paper or napkins – Inspiration strikes while the glue gun is hot! – Or something like that isn’t it!?

Amongst the sea of ideas and sketches and the less organised part of my brain, it has always stuck with me. When I decided to embark on another creative blog challenge adventure I just knew it had to be in the mix somewhere now that I knew exactly how I wanted it to look.

So without further ado…Here is Create 30 – No.23 – Shooting Star Quote Print…

The background of the print was hand painted in acrylic paint in beautiful blue hues and inky black streaks before being digitally rendered into the correct size and proportions for the print. The gorgeous texture of the brush strokes across the canvas were deliberately left visible to create a more dimensional and tactile feel onto a smooth, flat piece of wonderful wall art.

Stars are illustrated across the print like scattered moon dust in the sky, in tiny diamond clusters and large shining gems. A galaxy of wishes glittering across the print alongside white wisps of cloud and a deep inky sky. A shooting star sparkles across the top right of the print and is captured just above the first line of typed words… View Post

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays Hand Lettering and Rose Floral Christmas Wreath with Button Holly and Berries - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello lovely Buttoneers! I can’t believe we are at the last blog post of the year! WE MADE IT!! Hooray! If you read my For the Love of…Winter blog post last week, you will know how much I love this time of year…but most of all I love Christmas! I love the magic of it all. I love the gathering of my people all together for that one day, all safe and in one place and together.

As Christmases pass and Christmases change, as people come and people go – the one constant is that we come together no matter what and just be together. We are unashamedly ourselves. We are children again; no matter how old you are when those presents land in your lap.

We are calm and frantic and excited all at the same time. We are thoughtful and we remember. We hold each other close and we hold on tight.

As Christmases pass and Christmases change, one thing that never changes is how thankful I am for those around me and how much warmth and love is spread. We make the most of what we have and never for one minute take it for granted. They are my people and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

More than anything this year though, I will be super glad of a little break. To be around family and friends. To just stop for a while and soak it all in.

I will be super glad to put on the brakes, sit in front of Christmas telly, eat all of the festive food and worry about it all next year! I will be super glad to breathe a little, relax and go on adventures! To take some time out to revive the creative juices ready for next year. To be ready, steady, go-get-em-teddy to attempt to complete my Create 30 blog challenge before June! Ahhh! One step at a time…

I always like to sit down at this time of year and reflect over the year just gone. Buuuut…This year has been pretty crazy pants right!? If not personally for each of you, then globally. This little corner of the blogosphere will never be a political place. It will never become a place for war or hate, but I think we can all agree that 2016 can meet up with my personal 2015 and go to hell. I hope that 2017 is full of hope and joy and peace. I hope that people come together and support and love harder than ever before. I am hopeful for 2017 and I feel I haven’t said that in a really long time! As some of you know, we had one hell of a year last year and this year took a lot of patience, of waiting for things to happen and holding on to the hope that things would get better. It was the year of repair. The year of getting back on the horses and learning to ride them again. The year of building ourselves back up and trying again, and again all the while never letting it become who we are because, we are more than what happened to us

A Festive Adventure

A Festive Adventure Hand Lettering - A Festive Adventure at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid – Art, Design, Craft & Adventure.

Hello there lovely Buttoneers! It is almost Christmas and I am super excited, especially now that I have been adventuring to some late night shopping festivities! What is it about Christmas markets that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and as excited as…well a kid me on Christmas morning!?

I love the smell of mulled wine that lingers in the cold crisp air…the scent of chestnuts roasting (on an open fire!?) The bright twinkly lights that give a sense of magic just around the corner…the stalls of handmade goodness, mince pies, gifts and festive foods….the happiness that soaks into your soul as you wander around without a care in the world…Christmas perfection!

At the weekend, my fiancé and I adventured out down the road to the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway which is just about ten minutes away from where we live – It is my fave! They had carollers, brass bands and so much Christmas spirit – not to mention all of the lights!

The sparkly twinkle fairy lights looked divine against the creamy golden Cotswold stone buildings and we easily felt like we had be transported back in time…it is the most quintessential Cotswold village. It is not hard to see why it was voted as number 1 in AOL’s ‘Best Christmas Destination in the UK’ this year!

It really was chocolate box material!
